An alleged rumor spread across the NFL last year that Wilson tried to fire Carroll from the Seattle Seahawks before moving to the Denver Broncos. However, the truth might be something else, per Wilson’s social media posts for his “father figure” coach.

The Hawks traded Wilson to the Orange team after his injury-riddled season in 2022. And now, as Carroll is set to exit Seattle as HC after the 2023 regular season, a past rumor of his firing is circulating all over the internet, recalling the alleged sour memories that he might have had with the “benched” QB. In the early months of 2023, a rumor broke via a report from “The Athletic” that Russell was the one who wanted Pete Carroll fired from the Hawks before his departure. Furthermore, per that report, he tried to have general manager John Schneider fired before being traded to the Broncos. The report also mentioned that he wanted Sean Payton, his Broncos coach this year, to replace Carroll in Seattle.

When asked about his thoughts on the rumors, Carroll said, “It doesn’t matter who the guy is.” He mentioned, “I’m always going to hang with them, and I’m never going to leave them.” However, later on, Wilson wrote on social media, sharing his tweets and denying such allegations. The ex-Seahawks QB tweeted, “I love Pete and he was a father figure to me and John believed in me and drafted me as well. I never wanted them fired. All any of us wanted was to win.”

This tweet from Wilson depicted the hollowness of the earlier alleged rumors of Carroll’s firing. And it might be true that Wilson loves Carroll till now, as the latest episode of their meetup shows a strong bond between them.
