Patrick Mahomes‘ outburst on NFL officiating seems to have long-lasting effects on players. Despite taking his words back, the QB’s actions have rejuvenated recent controversies regarding the referees. And now, certain players are also choosing to talk about the issue revolving around their plays. One of them is Myles Garrett.

Recently, the Browns’ defensive end has pictured his own experience with the play calls. Talking about the issue, he detailed what was bothering him the most. However, Garrett has smartly refrained from accusing anyone directly and clarified his intentions with a comment.

Garrett has been a leading blocker in the league for a long time and won the AP mid-season Defensive Player of the Year award. But even the 6-foot-4, 270 lbs behemoth feels he has not been getting the right calls. Talking to NBC Sports’ Michael David Smith, the DE cleared the clutter with his thoughts.

“Right now I’m not getting any calls, so it can’t get much worse than that. But I hope it has a positive effect”, Garrett said after the Browns vs Jaguars game. “I’m not trying to offend anybody. I just want them to do their job to the best of their ability”, he made sure he didn’t land in a jeopardy, or invite unwanted actions from the league with his comments.

The Browns won the game 31-27, but apparently, the issue was too prominent for Garrett to let go of. This wasn’t the first time the officials have invited conflicted views on their calls, either.

Mahomes had an earlier disappointment in the season vs the Packers when safety Jonathan Owens hit him while he still was inside the bounds. Head referee Brad Allen didn’t see the issue with it, but the decision was only overturned when far-posted field judge Rick Patterson jumped in and convinced Allen that the play was foul. Patterson, however, was proved to be wrong with analysts pointing out his mistake in the call.

But the disappointments have not always ended on good terms for the players. In early November, the league slapped a hefty $25k fine on Steelers‘ WR Diontae Johnson for passing a comment which read “must’ve got paid good today or something.” The accusing notation was directed toward the officials following the team’s loss to the Jaguars.

While Garrett has probably avoided the fine ending his criticism in a rather assertive manner, will we see what he called the “positive effect” later in the season? That remains the bigger question as of now.
