Russell Wilson has been at a crossroads with the Denver Broncos since last October. On the one hand, it’s $39M; on the other, it’s his job as a starting quarterback for the team. He tried to choose both, but the Broncos had other plans. While neither side is budging from their decision, Wilson thinks he can achieve a legacy with the Denver Broncos.

Wilson went on the I Am Athlete podcast and spoke about his future vision with Brandon Marshall. Despite his age, he thinks he’s as young as ever and has a lot of football left in him. That’s why Mike Florio tried to make a case for Wilson and thinks he shouldn’t have a problem finding a job as a starting QB.

Dov Kleiman pointed out the relevant portion from I Am Athlete on X. Brandon Marshall asked Wilson whether he is still obsessed with football at age 35. It’s safe to say that the quarterback’s age is not restraining him from playing football. What’s more interesting is that he insisted on bringing home not one but two Lombardi Trophies in the next five years. Moreover, he expressed his desire to stay with the Denver Broncos as initially expected.

“I got more fire than ever, honestly, especially over the past two years of what I have gone through, whether it is in Denver or somewhere else. I hope it’s in Denver, you know; I hope I get to finish there. I committed there, I wanted to be there, you know, I want to be there, for me it’s about winning. For the next five years, I want to win two,” said Wilson as he admitted that winning is all he cared about.

However, sentiments don’t run a football team; management does. And the management might decide to part ways with the QB soon.

The tricky situation of Russell Wilson

It became clear early on that Wilson is taking a stance for $39M, and the Broncos are doing everything they can not to pay him. If Wilson wants to play for anyone else, he can do so with a $1.21M per year deal. Most teams with a QB problem would hire Wilson in a blink, given the price tag. NFL pundits like Mike Florio presume Wilson would stick the Broncos with a $39M cheque and find a new home.

Despite all this, the QB expressed his desire to stay with the Broncos and mend relations with them. His professionalism might force him to do the job he was hired for and remain committed to it. We will see what the Denver Broncos have in store for Wilson in about a month.
