The Chiefs‘ win against the Bengals was as narrow as it could get. The scoreline was 26-25. But it was (heavily) controversial. Everyone criticized the referee’s decision to award the penalty, with even some members of the Chiefdom admitting they couldn’t get over it. The Bengals were leading till the last 38 seconds with 25-23 but couldn’t finish the game in their favor. After all the criticism regarding the Chiefs’s offense, Travis Kelce openly accepted his fault.
Speaking to his elder brother and former NFL player, Jason Kelce on the New Heights podcast, the TE talked about the game. While discussing his performance, he said, “I put it on me. It starts with the leaders, you know making sure you go in with the right mentality. I didn’t play my best, it spreads if you don’t fix it.” He was struggling on the field, with only one pass for 5 yards and 1 carry on 1 rushing yard.
The game had everyone on the edge of their seats. And the TE fared badly against the Bengals. Here’s a stat to give an idea about the intensity on the field. It was the first game since September 2018 when Travis Kelce failed to make at least 3 catches. His 114-game streak ended, the longest by any NFL player. He is aiming to create history this year, and his comments on the podcast reflected his determination, “I just think we have to match accountability with offensive side to really become another Super Bowl caliber team.”

The TE was lackluster in the first game as well. Against the Ravens, he had only 1 reception for 34 yards. While the HC Andy Reid is confident that the 3-time Super Bowl winner will pick up as the season moves ahead, Stephen A. Smith commented on his personal life. Why wouldn’t he? Travis Kelce’s billionaire girlfriend, Taylor Swift, steals the spotlight in every appearance.
She was in the stands during the game against the Bengals.
Travis Kelce needs to handle his business
Wearing a Chiefs jersey, Swift was enjoying her boyfriend’s intro. Shouting her heart out, she was also seen holding a cup with TE’s jersey number 87 imprinted on it. Like a fangirl, the pop star cheered for Travis Kelce. They have been all over the news during the off-season and now during the games.
Smith was quick to point out that they saw more of her (Swift) than him (Kelce). With that, he also had sound advice on the First Take, “Come on now. Football season is here. The honeymoon’s over. Let’s handle our business, OK.” The tight end needs to do better if they want to make history. They wouldn’t get lucky every time.
What’s your perspective on:
Did Travis Kelce's off-game cost the Chiefs, or was it just the Bengals' day to shine?
Have an interesting take?
The TE admitted that on the podcast and said, “For whatever reason, for these past two games, it hasn’t gone that way for me. That’s football man. I used to lose my cool. A lot of the time. It’s tough for me to deal with being mediocre.” With such serious contemplation, we might see a different, better version of Travis Kelce in the next game against the Falcons.

While he deals with his performance on the field, an insider has revealed that Travis Kelce wants to start a family and have kids with his girlfriend sooner rather than later. They are having serious conversations. It’s high time, Reid has a serious conversation too with the TE.
While the locker room conversations happened, we had our separate conversation with the founder of Sanders Sports and Entertainment, Doug Sanders. Watch the intriguing talk here.
