Home/NFL

It was insane watching two absolutely banging back-to-back Sunday Night Football games on December 8. The NFL really delivered. One LA team went home with a smile, and the other one went home with something to reflect upon. Jim Harbaugh and his Chargers still have a grip over their season, however, their chance to clinch the AFC West has collapsed.

It was a head-to-head battle between Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, both of whom scored a touchdown. Harbaugh’s signature style of play didn’t see much light as the Chargers didn’t run the ball all that much in the week 14 game. The Bolts‘ head coach was dejected after the loss and the only thing that could give him solace was a 400-year-old ballad.

The 19-17 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs had Harbaugh mulling about an old hymn from Sir Andrew Barton, a Scottish privateer and a sailor. His words low-key seem dedicated to Justin Herbert, who got brutally hit by Nick Bolton in the second quarter. It’ll make more sense when you have a look at it.

“Fight on my men, I am hurt, but I am not slain; I’ll lay me down and bleed a while, and then I’ll rise and fight again,” Harbaugh said in the post-game interview. That is in fact what happened to Justin Herbert, who injured his hamstring with about 4:28 remaining in the second quarter. Here’s a quick run down of the numbers.

Coming back to Herbert’s injury scare, it happened in the second quarter on third and 10 as the QB scrambled to his right and lobbed a deep pass to Quentin Johnson to equalize the game. The pass was incomplete andHerbert got hit by Nick Bolton later. But there was no flag and the Chargers had to fall back.

Following the hit, Herbert stepped out for one play. But he returned to the game, realizing that his team couldn’t do without him much longer. He completed 21 of his 30 passes over 213 yards and scored a touchdown. He spoke to the media after the game and addressed the hit he took when the Chiefs were leading 6-0.

Justin Herbert gets real about his injury

The Chargers fans can breathe a sigh of relief because the injury wasn’t a major one. So, that keeps Jim Harbaugh and Co.’s playoff dreams alive. Check out Herbert’s comments about the play where he got banged up. “Yeah, I just took a shot to the knee, but I should be okay,” Herbert said.

The media personnel confronted the QB about Jim Harbaugh’s comments on his injury. The Chargers’ head coach made it out to be a “leg contusion,” or a “bruise,” but the QB laid rest to the injury speculations.

“Yeah, I’d have to watch the film. Maybe it was a helmet there or an elbow. I’m not quite sure. But just took a shot there and was in some pain, so it came off. Felt good to go and went back in,” Herbert further explained.

The LA Chargers have slipped to 8-5 now, but they are in the wild card contention for sure. Up next, they will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that has as much to lose, if not more. Will Herbert deliver in the next installment of Sunday Night Football?
