Will Aidan Hutchinson's injury galvanize the Lions, or is it a crushing blow to their season?

What happened at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, was enough to send chills through one’s body. Those who witnessed Aidan Hutchinson’s injury on Sunday were left shocked. Although the Lions won against the Cowboys by a spectacular 38-point margin, the third quarter of the Week 6 game shook the entire field when Hutchinson was seen lying down, crying in pain.

The injury took place when Hutchinson sacked Dak Prescott but unfortunately, his leg suffered an awkward bend when it hit his teammate Alim McNeill’s leg. The player removed his gloves while the Detroit Lions’s medical staff tended to him before he was carted off the field. Players of both teams surrounded the cart and hoped that Hutchinson would get better soon. However, it looked like a season-ending injury.

Coach Dan Campbell revealed during the post-game conference that his player had suffered a broken tibia and that Hutchinson would stay in Dallas for further evaluation. No wonder his family took to social media to ask fans to pray for his speedy recovery.

Aidan Hutchinson’s older sister, singer Mia Hutchinson, shared a story on her official Instagram account. She posted a photo of her brother, asking fans to pray for him, writing, “Please pray for Aidan (blue heart emoji).”

Hutchinson’s other sister, Aria Hutchinson, the middle child in the family, reshared the story. These requests for prayers show how deeply concerned his family is during this difficult time.

This incident brought tears and frustration to many, as the entire NFL community joined in to pray for the young player.

From Dak Prescott to J.J. Watt, all send prayers for Aidan Hutchinson!

After Aidan Hutchinson’s lower leg injury, the entire NFL community rallied to show support and offered prayers for the defensive end. For instance, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who was sacked by Hutchinson during the play that led to the injury, said, “Being honest with you, I’ll probably get (Hutchinson’s) number, I know I will from one of the Michigan guys in the locker room and reach out again.”

He added that since he experienced a similar type of injury in October 2020, he knows, “where he [Aidan Hutchinson] is in that moment, hated it, hated it for him, hated every bit of it.”

In October 2020, while playing against the New York Giants, Prescott left the field on a cart as he choked back his tears. After the QB was tackled by Logan Ryan, he suffered a fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. The quarterback underwent surgery and subsequent rest while missing the rest of the season.

But in 2021, he came back with a bang! Dak Prescott understands what Hutchinson is going through currently.

In addition, Prescott shared a piece of advice to the rusher, saying, “I just told him (to) keep his head up, it’s part of the story I promise.”

That’s valuable advice from a veteran player. Senior players like Micah Parsons also prayed for the athlete. He took to X to write, “Praying for Hutchinson (prayer emoji) man was the best player on the field all year!! Hope he gets a speedy recovery!!! #Godspeed!!”

Similarly, J.J. Watt was devastated about the injury and wrote, “Aidan Hutchinson no. Damnit man, that is horrific.”

Now it remains to be seen when Aidan Hutchinson returns, as it seems likely to be a season-ending injury for the player. Even coach Campbell refrained from giving a concrete timeline for the recovery. Regardless, the Lions have Isaac Ukwu as the top-listed backup after Hutchinson. They also have James Houston.

But let us not forget that the team looks thin on the edge because, before Hutchinson’s injury, free agent acquisition Marcus Davenport suffered a torn triceps. So the Lions have just a couple of healthy edge rushers. We will have to wait and watch what happens next.
