You know what they say when it rains, it pours. And that proverb could go well with reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey. After spending 8 games recovering from a bilateral Achilles tendinitis, McCaffrey was supposed to help the Niners mount a late push for the playoffs. However, it seems like the 49ers RB just can’t catch a break with injuries this season. As per latest reports, the 28-year-old is now ruled out for the next 6 weeks after suffering a freak injury on Sunday.
Playing his 4th game of the season, McCaffrey looked like he was slowing back to his usual form. However, tragedy enfolded with 13 minutes left on the clock in the second quarter. While he was trying to complete an 18-yard gain downfield, the 49ers RB was tripped by Bills safety Taylor Rupp. This led to him coming down hard on his right knee, which eventually led to his PCL injury.
But the good news is he won’t need any surgery, unlike in his previous injury. As McCaffrey prepares for a lengthy time on the sidelines, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has taken a drastic decision. Posting a screenshot on X with the caption, “This hurt,” Schefter was found dropping McCaffrey from his fantasy team with a heavy heart.

His return to the 49ers lineup after missing 8 weeks wasn’t great either. Before going down with yet another injury, CMC had just racked up 348 yards to his name. And the sole reason why the Niners were excited to have him back was to see him score those crucial TDs. However, the 49ers RB didn’t even manage one as he heads into the injury reserve for the second time this season. Seeing CMC getting ruled out for the season has got the 49ers camp visibly upset on his latest setback.

49ers react to Christian McCaffrey’s double injury blow this season
Kyle Shanahan was the first one to express his disappointment at losing CMC yet again this season, “It was frustrating. He had a great week of practice and I could feel his urgency and stuff and though he came out great, looking really good. And it looked like he just got his shoestring there.” Well, it’s true. McCaffrey was just finding his feet against the Bills. Before leaving the pitch just on the eve of halftime, McCaffrey recorded seven carries for 53 yards alongside two receptions for 14 yards.
He even notched up his best rushing yards in Buffalo with 19 and 18 yards, respectively. However, it all came crashing down as Shanahan called his loss tough for the team, “I hurt for him, and tough for our team not having him.” Well, the 49ers head coach wasn’t the only one who gave his honest opinion on missing McCaffrey for the remainder of this campaign. Former Mr Irrelevant Brock Purdy also chimed in with his thoughts, “We all saw what he was doing, and he was on fire. He’s one of the best running backs in the league, and you lose him like that. I think it takes away just sort of how we do some things within the offense. It s—-.”

Without CMC, the Niners called for Jordan Mason’s services yet again. Mason finished his outing in Buffalo with 13 carries for 78 yards with no TDs. But rookie RB Isaac Guerendo helped the 49ers score their only TD in the game. His 15-yard burst from the left side helped the 49ers save some face in an embarrassing defeat to the Bills.
