Looks like Drake Maye just garnered himself another fanboy! Despite a frustrating and dilapidated 4-13 record—with the QB passing for 2,276 yards, with 15 touchdowns—Maye’s leadership style, and promising rookie season has garnered ample interests, which was evident by a recent statement by renowned sports documentary filmmaker Gotham Chopra.

For those still confused, Chopra is the man behind Religion of Sports—a film production company responsible for iconic sports documentaries, including Simone Biles Rising, In the Arena: Serena Williams, Man in the Arena (Tom Brady), Kobe Bryant’s Muse, Conor McGregor Forever, and Tom vs Time (Tom Brady) among others. Appearing on the sports-television show Up and Adams with Kay Adams on March 5, Chopra made some interesting revelations that are sure to make Maye fans happy.

Notably, Gotham was primarily present to talk about the Aaron Rodgers: Enigma, documentary. However, Adams then tossed an interesting question, asking Gotham which junior player he keeps tabs on. If you could strap a GoPro to somebody’s head right now…if you could, you know, ‘Early on, let’s get in early with footage,’ and all those things. And you want to get to track somebody as they go, a young cat if you will. Who’s interesting to you that’s in the beginning steps of their journey and across all sports?”

Gotham’s answer? 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff, and Patriots’ QB Drake Maye. “Coco Guff is amazing…had the incredible fortune of working with Serena Williams and again looking back at, you know, 20-plus years of success and all of that…Coco, her trajectory early on is looking like that,” he said, before adding, I’d like to say, but this is my personal bias: Drake Maye, you know, is early in his career.”

Chopra also admitted in the interview that he is a Patriots fan. I’m a huge fan, of course, in general, and I have my favorite teams -Patriots being one. I have high hopes for themlove Drake Maye. Drake started his NFL journey last season as a backup to Jacoby Brissett. In October, Maye replaced Brissett, as he failed to put any wins in the column for the team.

The North Carolina alum racked up 243 yards and scored 3 TDs in his first game as the starting QB against the Texans. The Pats did not have a dreamy season this year. But for the next season, fans hope for a comeback with a new HC in place and Drake as the starting QB.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Drake Maye the Patriots' next big hope, or just another overhyped rookie?

Having said that, the documentarian and producer also shared his experience of working with Rodgers and his next plans.

What’s next for the storyteller of sports?

After revealing his adoration and support for the Pats and Drake Maye, Gotham dropped some insights into his future works. The 50-year-old shared that he is working with his favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, and is also brewing something with Warriors star Steph Curry again. Chopra has worked with Stephen on Stephen vs. The Game, a docuseries based on the NBA star’s life.I’ve been working with Steph Curry again on another project, so excited about that. We just always have a lot going on. I love storytelling, I love sports, so I’m very fortunate to be doing what I’m doing.

The Enigma director also dropped some interesting tidbits about Aaron Rodgers. In Rodgers’s docuseries, Gotham worked closely with him, learning about his journey as he struggled with injuries and everything else in between. He also cleared up one common misconception: “That [Rodgers] doesn’t have good relationships with his teammates. I was around him he has great relationships. All the people we talked to, especially going back to the Green Bay days, there was a deep affection for him, said Chopra.

This season has been particularly tough where people criticized the ex-Jets QB for many things, including accusing him of being the reason behind HC Robert Saleh‘s firing to putting himself first before the team.People assumed certain things and don’t know how much it pained him to go through that experience, said Gotham.

Well, that’s how it has always been for NFL stars—or any public figure, for that matter. Anyway, Gotham also shared that he might be bringing something special on soccer player Jude Bellingham. So, stay tuned. He might drop something on Netflix about Jude or maybe Drake Maye or even one of your favorite sports stars.
