Just a day ago, Keyshawn Johnson suggested the New York Giants team should sign Russell Wilson and draft Shedeur Sanders this offseason. So, finally, a lot of chit-chat is over! Wilson, speculated to re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, found a new home in New York. But what’s his contract range this time?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on his official Instagram post, “The Giants and Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson reached agreement today on a one-year deal.” The worth of the contract is “up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.” The NFL insider also shared a graphic of the quarterback with a “Breaking news” overlaying text.
Continuing on his caption, Schefter reminded fans about an interesting fact. He said, “The 10-time Pro-Bowl selection had been in discussions with the Giants, Browns and Steelers, but is opting for New York, where Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium. Now, Wilson is returning there as the Giants’ projected starting QB.” That’s, indeed, interesting. That win definitely connected Wilson with New York.

Russell Wilson suited up for the Steelers in 2024 on a one-year, $1.21 million deal. Meanwhile, the Broncos were still paying him a massive $37.79 million. But money isn’t what’s driving him. His love for the game runs deep.
After the season, Russ didn’t hesitate to keep playing. It’s because he asserted that he wants to play “as long as possible.” And this isn’t new. Back in November, he was already talking about pushing for another five to seven years. Anyway, it’s clear that for now, he isn’t walking away.
Now, Russell Wilson joins the quarterback room of the Giants, which recently saw Jameis Winston’s signing and fan favorite Tommy DeVito’s re-signing, whom they kept despite Keyshawn Johnson’s suggestion to cut him from the roster. The fans are excited.
Even Giants receiver Darius Slayton wasted no time in giving his approval on the move. Sharing this story on his social media platform, the athlete coined Wilson’s infamous Broncos catchphrase to show his support. He wrote, “Giants country…..Lets Ride,” instead of “Broncos country.” The excitement is real for him and the rest of the team.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Russell Wilson reignite the Giants' glory days, or is this just another fleeting NFL experiment?

So, now that Wilson has entered New York, how much is the franchise’s cap space?
Will the Giants have flexibility after signing Russell Wilson?
New York had around $17,207,470 in cap space before Russell Wilson’s signing via OTC. Because not all of his $21 million contract counts against the cap immediately (due to the structure of bonuses and incentives), his 2024 cap hit is the key number. That depends on the contract structure. But if the $10.5 million guaranteed is spread out, the Giants may still have some flexibility left.

The Broncos signed Russell Wilson to a massive five-year, $242.6 million deal. But after releasing him, they were stuck with $85 million in dead money over two seasons. Since Wilson just finished one season with the Steelers, Denver has already absorbed part of that hit. That means they still have a significant dead cap charge left for the upcoming season.
According to Over The Cap, the team’s total cap liabilities stand at $284,789,737, with dead money tied to two players. Former quarterback Daniel Jones, who has signed with the Vikings, accounts for $22,210,000, while Darren Waller carries $4,917,500 in dead cap.
New York had around $6.6 million in salary cap space coming into Tuesday, per Spotrac, though that number will change after the draft and once the roster is trimmed down. The franchise has around 70 players on its active roster, which they might trim down to 51.
