Would you believe that the Cowboys QB1 right now, Cooper Rush, had been a part of the team for almost a decade now? Insane, right, considering the way we have always seen Dak Prescott lead America’s team out. But this season, it’s a little different for Rush, who usually plays the backup role in Dallas. With Dak Prescott out for the remainder of this season, citing a hamstring injury, Rush has been given the keys to the offense.
Although Rush took his time to settle into the role with consecutive defeats against the Eagles and Texans, he has since turned it around. Helping the Cowboys win two consecutive games for the first time this season, those victories on the bounce might help Rush claim a lucrative contract after this season. But for that, he would have to wait until the next of this season and see where the Cowboys end their year. So, while we wait for the end of the regular season, looking at Rush’s current salary might help you understand what he is earning right now.
What is Cooper Rush’s salary?

From the looks of it, Rush is on a two-year deal worth $5M that he signed back in 2023. It has a base salary of $2.25M, which is pretty average to his standards. Moving on from that, Rush has a guaranteed sum of $2.7M on his $5M contract. He also received a signing bonus of $1.25M for putting pen to that contract. Now, Rush’s deal has a cap hit of around $2.87M while carrying a measly dead cap value of $625,000. Seeing those numbers, Rush deserves something higher than what he is currently producing with blue and white.
His two match-matching performances against the Commanders and the Giants saw Rush avoid any turnovers. And that might prompt Jerry Jones to offer the 31-year-old a better deal than what he is earning right now. But it all depends upon where he takes them in the following weeks. It could be decided whether his current deal will be extended or not.

How long is Cooper Rush’s contract?
Working on a two-year deal that ends this season, Rush will enter unrestricted free agency if the Cowboys don’t decide to renew his current deal. As per the contract he is on right now, Cooper ranks 52nd out of 109QBs in the league. Not bad, considering he mostly plays backup when Dak Prescott is fit to lead. With a net worth of $7M, Rush has come a long way from the rookie contract he signed in 2017.

What was Cooper Rush’s rookie contract?
When the Cowboys decided to sign Cooper Rush, he was just an undrafted rookie. So they decided to offer him peanuts of a deal that was worth only $1.7M. Signing his 3-year rookie deal, the Cowboys QB was offered a signing bonus of $5,000. Well, he also had a guaranteed sum of $5,000 within that contract. However, the Cowboys must offer him a much better deal because of the way he is filling up for Prescott this season. But it isn’t in our hands, as Jerry Jones would be the one calling shots at the end of this season.
