Patrick Mahomes walked into Super Bowl LIX aiming to sling his way to a three-peat, something no team has ever done. Instead, he walked out with grass stains, a bruised ego, and way too many close-ups of the Eagles’ defensive line. The Eagles completely shattered the Chiefs, and Mahomes spent most of the night running for his life.
So, how bad was it? Let’s break down Mahomes’ rough night, the sack-fest, and why even Travis Kelce admitted the Chiefs “had no spark.” The Offensive line couldn’t handle the Eagles’ constant pressure, the receivers couldn’t get open, and Mahomes was left forcing risky throws. Even Kelce, Mahomes’ go-to guy, was held in check for most of the night. And let’s not forget that heated moment between Kelce and head coach Andy Reid in the game.

Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl 2025 Stats
Patrick Mahomes, the king of unpredictable plays, looked downright human against the Eagles’ relentless defense. His final stats? 21-of-32 passing, 257 yards, 3 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and aching six sacks. The Eagles’ pass rush had one job, to make Mahomes uncomfortable, and they crushed it. Two sacks in the first quarter alone set the tone, and they never gave up. Whenever Mahomes tried to work his magic, an Eagles defender was already in his face. As we know, before this game he had never been sacked more than three times in any Super Bowl.

Mahomes was hoping for help from his squad but it didn’t come. Travis Kelce stated after the game, “We just didn’t have that spark, man. We weren’t clicking the way we usually do.” This means that the Chiefs’ offense went completely off. Mahomes was forced into risky throws as the O-line couldn’t handle the pressure, and receivers were struggling to get open. Frustrations were boiling over as the game slipped away from their hands, making it a really tough night for the champs. But even superheroes have off days.
What’s Next for Mahomes & the Chiefs?
Alright Chiefs Kingdom, let’s talk about where the Chiefs can go after this tough 40-22 loss to the Eagles. That Offensive Line beat down and six sacks ain’t easy to recover from. They need some serious changes upfront to keep Mahomes in the game. Let’s agree the left tackle is a disaster. The revolving door of stopgap Suamataia & Wanya Morris didn’t work. They should settle for a real long-term approach. Trey Smith is a free agent now, the Chiefs really should keep him if they can afford it. Thuney and Humphrey performed well, but RT and LG need an upgrade as they lack sync.
Next, the running back should go beyond getting three yards on every rush, Kareem Hunt is a good plan, but nothing great. Even Pacheco isn’t the same post-injury.

What’s your perspective on:
Did the Eagles expose Mahomes' weaknesses, or was it just an off day for the Chiefs?
Have an interesting take?
Kelce was struggling to separate against man coverage, and honestly breaking fewer tackles ain’t working anymore. Rashee Rice is becoming a true WR1, so build the offense around him. The Pass Rush needs improvement, keeping Chris Jones to wreck every O-line isn’t a long-term strategy. The defense-line Danna, Omenihu, and Karlaftis just weren’t generating enough pressure. The fix is to get a rusher who can chase down mobile QBs, as the AFC is full of them.
Yeah, it might sound too critical after the Chiefs registered their first 15-win season and made it to the Super Bowl. But complacency has ended more dynasties than enemies ever did.

The Eagles might have sent the Chiefs home without the Lombardi Trophy this season but with all the fixes made, they will return stronger for another Lombardi next season in 2026.
