Injury troubles don’t seem to leave the side of Seahawks LB Uchenna Nwosu. After coming back for the Giants clash this weekend from his knee injury that kept him out over the four games this season, Nwosu found himself tangled with another injury. This time, it’s on the thigh as the 27-year-old gets added to the injury reserve, thereby missing a minimum of the next four games in the NFL.
Offering an update on his injury, head coach Mike Macdonald said, “We won’t get him back Thursday, then we’ll see here in the next few days if it’s going to be longer than that.” Considering the recurring injuries he is going through, rushing him back for snaps over the next four games doesn’t seem like a feasible option.

But he is not the only injury that the Seahawks are dealing with after the Giants’ debacle, “Riq has an ankle, and I think I’ll have some news for you by the time we play. It’ll become a little more clear.” Well, CB Riq Woolen and Nwosu aren’t the only ones, as their defensive troubles stretch to OLB Derick Hall, “I’m not sure right now. D-Hall, it’s kind of the same area with his foot.”
Amid all the injury troubles, there is some respite for MacDonald, who could get OLB Boye Mafe back before the Thursday clash against the 49ers. “Boye wants to play. He’s working his tail off. It’s a matter of if we can pull the trigger or not at this point. If it’s safe for him to go and he feels right. We’ll see. It’s going to come down to the wire right now with Boye.” If Boye does come back, he will make his return after missing the last two games due to a knee injury.

Giving a clearer picture of who can return or not, the Seahawks coach further added, “Byron, we’re still not sure on the timetable. It looks like it might take one more week.” With rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, tackle Abraham Lucas and safety Jerrick Reed II out. The Seahawks’ defense is bound to struggle amid so many absentees.
Seattle Seahawks struggling defense failing to keep up with their strong start to the season
What’s your perspective on:
Can the Seahawks overcome their defensive struggles without Uchenna Nwosu, or is their season doomed?
Have an interesting take?
Taking his first job at the helm in Seattle, Mike Macdonald needs to get his defense sorted, which is leaking points and rushing yards like there’s no end to it. Going back to last week’s clash, the Seahawks defense gave up 175 rushing yards to a struggling Giants’ side that was placed at 30th in the NFL for their poor run game. It was simply astonishing to watch them ripped apart by a Giants lineup that didn’t have their starting RB Devin Singletary.

Even rookie RB Tyrone Tracy recorded 129 rushing yards, showing the problems they have on the back. When asked to address this situation, the Seahawks coach shared, “I can’t quote you the rush stats, but we’re not stopping the run the way we need to be in certain coverages that we’re asking them to do. That’s on the edge guys, but it’s on the interior guys, it’s on second-level players. It’s all eleven guys.”
Well, their problems started to grow bigger after they found themselves giving up 42 points against the Lions in week 4. It came as a huge shock to the Seahawks as the three games they played before had only 43 points total recorded. Will Macdonald manage to improve the defensive struggles, with missing key players in certain areas? Or will the defense be the downfall for the Seahawks, who had a great sytart to the season with first three games? Guess we will know next week as they prepare to welcome the 49ers to Seattle.
