In training camp this year, the Dallas Cowboys brought in Jordan Phillips from the New York Giants. They hoped to strengthen their defense, and it looked like that. As dominating as the Cowboys looked during the win against the Browns, they looked equally weak during the loss against the Saints. More importantly, their (transfer) move backfired.
Bad news! He injured his wrist during the week 2 game. The tackle has been put on the injured reserve (IR) list now. That means he is out for 4 games. In 2 games, he recorded 1 tackle and 2 quarterback pressures. The extent of the injury is still unknown. The Cowboys aren’t wasting any time over the situation and have found the backup already.

This was true before this news, but the Cowboys need (and have needed) help at defensive tackle in the worst way. https://t.co/QHnUjXkWD5

During the press conference, Head Coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that Carlos Watkins had joined them from the Commanders. The veteran DT has played 27 games for the America’s team in the 2021 and 2022 seasons already. His best came in 2021, with 32 tackles (17 of them were solo), only career interception, and a pick-six. He looks like the perfect replacement for Jordan Phillips. Something they need to tighten up.
By halftime, the Saints had torn apart the Cowboys‘ defense. They led 35-16 during the halftime. While Derek Carr and Dak Prescott had a (kind of) similar performance with Carr’s 11 of 16 passes with 2 touchdowns in 243 yards and the latter’s 27 of 39 passes with 1 touchdown in 293 yards. Saints’ RB Alvin Kamara made all the difference, shredding the Cowboys into pieces. He recorded 20 rushes with 115 yards and 3 touchdowns, breaking the hearts of fans.
Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, was extremely disappointed by the 44-19 loss.

After a crushing week 1 victory, Jones was looking for another win. But his hopes were crushed. Feeling sad after the loss, the owner said, “This is extraordinarily disappointing. We certainly didn’t see this coming.” However, like a general, he had positive words for his boys, saying, “This is very, very early.” But the highest-paid quarterback didn’t take the loss lightly.
Dak Prescott is unfazed by the injury to Jordan Phillips. He also didn’t expect such defeat. But the QB is now pressing his team to do better. While talking to the reporters after the game, he had strong words for the locker room. Prescott said, “We just simply got to reset. We’ve got to respond. So it’s about getting back to it and finding a way to respond to put the best team on the field next week.”
Next week, they are up against the Ravens. Can they reunite and put the loss behind them? Fans hope they can.
