With the NFL Draft inching closer, players will be waiting with bated breath to hear their names being called on the stage. What follows is the first step for every draft prospect of the NFL dream. Being handed the jersey with their name from Commissioner Roger Goodell will mark the beginning of their professional football career.
The on-stage moment in Detroit will be iconic for the drafted players, teams, and fans. But it is the Nike and STAHL team backstage that works like clockwork to make this moment possible. With high stakes and just 60 seconds on the clock, it’s nothing short of magic how the team manages to get the personalized jerseys out.

The round picks in the Draft enter the league with jerseys that have their last names imprinted. The jerseys are handed to the drafted players by none other than Goodell. As soon as the team announces the picks, a group of people in a small room behind the stage get busy behind the heating press. Nike has been working in collaboration with a Michigan-based firm, STAHL, for over 11 drafts. The Nike Jersey NFL Room get the pick information 30 seconds before the announcement, and here starts an error-proof task to get the jersey out.
Stahl’s is the company that makes NFL jerseys for each player on draft night.
They have 60 seconds to heat and press each nameplate before the player walks on stage, and they have 544 combinations ready to go.

With a time crunch of 60 seconds, the STAHL crew begins by choosing the correct name stencil. The company already has the nameplates of all prospects made in advance. For example, in 2023, STAHL had “544 combinations” ready for each of the “17 players invited to Kansas City,” according to WXYZ. Within 15 seconds, the heat press printed out the chosen player’s name, and the jersey was handed over to be delivered to the stage. This year, we might see some new fits dropping in the league, as announced by the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos.
The Jets, Texans, and Broncos to drop new uniforms
Before the new season commences, some teams are coming in with not only a new roster but also new uniforms. The Jets also announced plans to launch the Legacy White uniform in April, which debuted last year. Similarly, the Houston Texans’ owner shared photos of the new uniforms on X which is expected to launch in April as well. The new jerseys spell out the city name in blue and red on the front, with blue horns on the shoulders. Instead of “Texans,” the new jerseys will have “Houston” written on the chest.

The Denver Broncos also confirmed the incoming of new uniforms before the new season. Whereas the exact details of the jerseys remain unknown, rumors have been adrift about the potential new design. It has been speculated that there could be blue mountains on the side and a focus on “5280.”
