This week has been a rollercoaster one for the veteran QB Russell Wilson. After being cut from the roster by the Denver Broncos, he looked around for new teams. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked the QB up in a steal deal. Now merely hours later after the star-studded Oscars party, Wilson has posted his first words as the Steelers’ QB!

Wilson has kept a habit of engaging with his fans on social media, especially X (previously Twitter). From announcing his release at the hands of the Broncos to his first words as the Steelers QB, he has chosen the same platform.

Russell, along with his wife Ciara Wilson, attended the Oscars party after the 96th Academy Awards ceremony. But the 9X Pro Bowler refuses to rest as within a few hours he was on social media. The Super Bowl winner let his fans know his feelings after joining the Steelers.

“Great Day to be a Steeler.”, posted Wilson on X. His move and excitement have caused a frenzy among the Steelers’ fanbase. Not to mention the fact that the Steelers have picked him up at a discounted price!

With the bulk of his salary to be paid by the Broncos, the Steelers grabbed Wilson on the bare minimum of $1.35 million per season. However, there is one catch, unlike with the Broncos, Wilson isn’t guaranteed a starter position with the Steelers. What could the future look like for him in Pittsburgh?

Fight to grab the no. 1 position

Ever since his rookie season with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson has never had to fight for the QB1 rank. After 2012, for the first time, he will be jostling for the starting position with the Steelers’ current QB1 Kenny Pickett. One young and hungry while the other experienced and wise! This competition could bring out the best in both of them.

The 25-year-old Pickett has lacked the finishing required of a top QB. And the 35-year-old excels in finishing the plays out. No doubt Wilson will be a mentor for Pickett as well, but they will be competing for the top job at the Steelers.

Do you think Russell Wilson is an automatic starter for the Steelers instead of Pickett? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
