CeeDee Lamb missed the flight to Oxnard and all hell broke loose. The player won’t be attending the training camp with his teammates, as his expected contract extension still remains a far-fetched scenario for the receiver. Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb have taken the Cowboys offense to another level and that’s why the hosts of SPEAK think that Lamb should get paid.
“Give him the ball and he [Lamb] makes plays,” said LeSean McCoy as he added, “The issue I have with even asking the question should he get his contract or not is because look at these quarterbacks. Trevor Lawrence who I think is okay. How the hell can he just jump and be the number one dude contract wise right?”
A very uncanny pattern is taking shape in the league. People are still shocked by the fact that Trevor Lawrence now holds a contract that shames even Joe Burrow’s numbers. The question arises, if Lawrence can achieve this feat despite not being titled the best in business, why can’t CeeDee Lamb surpass Justin Jefferson’s huge $35 million a year paycheck after the astonishing seasons he has had? LeSean McCoy once again had an interesting take on the situation.

“When you got two elite guys, you got to jump over that guy. That’s how it works. I don’t want to see,” added McCoy. He said that the Cowboys’ offense wouldn’t be as good if Dak did not have CeeDee by his side. This is true because Lamb broke the Cowboys’ all-time reception record in the last season. As for Prescott, he was the league leader in passing touchdowns.
Lamb and Jefferson are quite similar to one another. At the peak of his career, Jefferson had 1,809 yards over 128 receptions and 8 touchdowns in the 2022 season. After a chest sternum injury on Dec. 10 last year, Jefferson missed out on 7 games. Comparing Jefferson’s incomplete season with Lamb’s would be unfair.
But while Jefferson was gone last year, Lamb put up 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. Not only did he break the Cowboys reception record, but also led the league with 135 receptions last year. Can they do it again this year?

So far there’s nothing substantial to say about Lamb and Prescott’s future in the Dallas Cowboys. While Dak didn’t hold out for any of the trainings, CeeDee Lamb not being on the flight to Oxnard is a huge concern for the Cowboys. What happens after this season? It’s hard to believe that the Cowboys would let such a prolific receiver like Lamb leave the Cowboys.

The Cowboys have held on to the same stance since the last few months. They say that they want to get Dak done, but the results are simply not there. Recently, the Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones joined Dianna Russini on Scoop City podcast and doubled down on the stance even further.
“Well those things take time. And we’re talking about deals here… when you’re talking about CeeDee and Dak… somebody like a Micah [Parsons] coming up… you’re talking about two players that aren’t quarterbacks that feel like they ought to be a little bit like Jefferson, the top paid non-quarterbacks in the league.”

This sounds like a good enough assurance that the Cowboys are working towards appeasing things for Prescott and Lamb. At the same time, it’s necessary to point out how Jerry Jones’ “all in” approach hasn’t been acted up as of now. The Cowboys are look at spending about $400 million over a span of next 4-5 years and that’s not an easy task. And that’s just on Dak and CeeDee. Come next year, Micah Parsons will also be looking for a new deal.
How soon do you think Prescott and Lamb will get paid?
