Does Russell Wilson still have some hope from his team, the Denver Broncos? Wilson knew everything would change for him this offseason after the 2023 season abruptly ended for the quarterback, even ahead of the team’s season-ending game.

That’s why the 35-year-old quarterback puts his $25 million Cherry Hills Village home on sale. However, as he appeared to be ready to move away from Denver this offseason, he still has some hopes in the corner of his heart. Despite his recent confession about staying back with the team, sports commentator Mike Florio eliminated Russell’s reunion with the Orange team, stating some reasons.

Is Russell Wilson still interested?

In a recent episode of “3 and Out,” Mike Florio joined the host, John Middlekauff, to discuss much of the NFL’s current news. As Russell Wilson recently showed interest in staying with the Broncos, Florio highlighted that the team can’t retain him now. The sports commentator said, “There’s no way he’s going back. There’s no way that’s going to work out. They’re not going to guarantee $37 million next year fully and completely, and he’s not going to change the date on which that guarantee of $37 million for injury vest.” Therefore, according to Florio, Denver will not take back Wilson, despite Wilson’s recent remarks on his “commitment.” “He’s gone, it’s over,” Florio concluded.

During an interview with Brandon Marshall on the “I Am Athlete” podcast last week, Wilson mentioned, “I got more fire than ever, honestly. Especially over the past two years of what I’ve gone through. Whether it’s in Denver or somewhere else — I hope it’s in Denver. You know, I hope I get to finish there. I committed there. I wanted to be there. I want to be there.

The quarterback also sidestepped the question of being traded to another home as he reiterated his willingness to stay with Denver again. But why can’t the one-time Super Bowl winner be on the Broncos’ roster again?

What’s the problem between Russell Wilson and the Broncos?

Media reports recently suggested a possible continuation of the relationship between the Broncos and quarterback Russell Wilson in 2024. However, this is not happening, as the decision to bench Wilson before the end of the 2023 season signaled that he is not considered a franchise QB by coach Sean Payton.

This implies they don’t want to pay him as expected, including the $37 million fully guaranteed in 2025. With $39 million owed in 2024, the Broncos plan to cut him after the league year begins, categorize it as a post-June 1 transaction, absorb the cap hit over 2024 and 2025, avoid the 2025 salary, and move forward.

Despite Wilson expressing his desire to stay with Denver, his public discussion of contract-related issues might be an interesting strategy. However, it seems the Broncos are done with Wilson, and the quarterback should look for other teams to fit in well, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Las Vegas Raiders.
