Sean Payton wanted a reliable and less erroneous quarterback, and now he has that in Bo Nix. The QB out of Oregon now holds the starting job for the Denver Broncos and the fans couldn’t be more thrilled about it. There was a time in Nix’s life, his Auburn career to be exact, when he faltered. He did a 360 and flipped the script in Oregon.
Imagine going to a new place, learning a whole new offense, and then balling out on national TV. That’s the kind of experience that Nix has. He beat the odds against Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Jordan Palmer, a former NFL QB, disclosed the reasons behind it on The Rich Eisen Show.
What separates Bo Nix from the others?

“I think Bo Nix was just so ready,” Jordan Palmer said. Palmer’s reason behind saying this is he thought not a lot of players like Trevor Lawrence and Caleb Williams have not dealt with “adversity.” He later explained how “Bo Nix was on some bad Auburn teams and was blamed for a lot of it. His dad played there, he grew up there, that’s a lot of pressure. He has failed before and then went to Oregon and succeeded.”

Nix never threw for more than 2,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in his team at Auburn. But things changed as soon as he became a part of the Oregon Ducks. In his last collegiate season, Nix threw a season-high 4,145 yards and 40 touchdowns with 77.2% completed passes. Nix later revealed how his Oregon transfer changed his career for the better.
“I think it just put everything together,” Nix said in March. “It provided me with some freedoms. It provided me with some chances later in my career that maybe I didn’t have at the beginning. We were able to be very versatile. We were able to get the ball everywhere.”
Also, the fact that Nix is married made him come off as a lot more mature than the other QBs in the league. Perhaps that’s why Sean Payton praises him and, on certain occasions, has compared him to Drew Brees.

Does Bo Nix give Drew Brees vibes?
Sean Payton mentioned earlier how Drew Brees was a quick and accurate thrower. The head coach also mentioned how he avoided taking sacks as well. Nix never threw a pick or took a sack in the two preseason games against the Packers and the Colts. Those are some of the things that equate him to Brees.

“If you think what made Sean Payton, Sean Payton in his time with Drew Brees. There’s a lot of the same things there in Bo. Quick decision maker, he’s never been a stupid interception thrower. He’s very settled, he’s married, he’s very mature, kind of like Drew was, you know,” Jordan Palmer added.
During his time in Oregon, Nix took all but 9 sacks and 9 interceptions in two years and started 61 games. Though college football is quite different from the NFL, Nix has taken enough reps in his 5-year collegiate career to be declared NFL-ready. It is going to get even more exciting from here on as the Broncos and their fans rally for Nix.
