Travis Kelce has reserved the “right to party” despite having a stint of subpar performance in the last couple of regular season games. And why not? The TE bounced back just as the Kansas City Chiefs entered the playoffs. There was a period where Kelce hadn’t scored a single touchdown in 7 consecutive regular season games, but those days are in hindsight. He is back in form now and the Chiefs are headed for the Super Bowl.
Ahead of the much-anticipated event, we look at Travis Kelce’s achievements on the field, and possibly some off the field. These are some qualities that might help the Chiefs with their 4 Super Bowl win.
We have more than five reasons to back the argument!

Tavis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs have been appearing in the playoffs every single year since 2015, the year after he joined the Chiefs. While a brief stint of his career had a TD drought in the playoffs, things started picking up for him with the start of the 2019 playoffs. Ever since that time, Kelce hadn’t failed to score less than 3 touchdowns in playoff games.
In 2019, he scored 4 TDs in playoffs. In the next year, he scored 3 TDs in the playoffs. While in 2022, he had another 4 TDs to his name in the off-season. This year, he had 3 TDs in the off-season. It feels like Travis Kelce plays at a slow pace (not in terms of speed) deliberately because he picks up yardage when he reaches the playoffs.
Looking at the ESPN stats and doing some math, Kelce averaged 65.6 YPG in the regular season. While his playoff games tell a different story. The Chiefs TE averaged 82.9 YPG in the 21 post-season games he’s played since 2015. That’s a significant jump in performance.
Does Travis have what it takes? Patrick Mahomes too shared a reason in his interview with the Associated Press. He said, “He’s one of those guys that loves a challenge. When the lights get brighter, he plays better. That’s the true mark of a champion, and that’s what he is.
It’s worth noting that the Pro Bowl TE is known for playing better under pressure – be it on the field or spotlight. He played in the AFC title game in the presence of Taylor Swift and his family. Kelce has been one of the most visible figures of football, plastering his name on commercials this season.
He didn’t let the pressure get to him and gave an outstanding performance with 11 (100% completion) receptions and a touchdown. But a lot of the credit behind his performance goes to Patrick Mahomes as well.
How the Kelce-Mahomes duo took over the NFL
In 2023 post-season games, there have been several instances where the QB-receiver duo broke a couple of records. For instance, the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens concluded in a hard-fought 17-10 victory over the top-seeded Ravens. In the game, the Chiefs’ helmsmen broke the all-time NFL record for most postseason receptions (11 catches over 116 yards). The tight end also broke Jerry Rice’s record by racking up 156 catches in 21 playoff games.
In the Divisional game against the Buffalo Bills, the duo broke Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski’s record of 15 playoff TDs with their 16 touchdown and won the game. Now, he ranks second to Jerry Rice in terms of receptions and receiving yards. The difference here is that Rice achieved those numbers in about 20 seasons, while Kelce did the same in 10 seasons!

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes play a monumental role in the locker room conversations. Such moments might motivate Travis to do better and instill the same learnings in the whole team. The QB and his receiver playing lights out in the playoffs might make the whole team feel like their efforts came to fruition.

The team’s coach Andy Reid has complete faith in the duo. As for Kelce, the coach recently told the Associated Press, “I never worried about him being ready to go. He’s always right there and just brings that emotion to the guys — that just secure feeling that we’re going to go get this thing no matter what, and don’t think of anything opposite that. We’re going to get it.”
The above are some facts and figures, stitched together with on and off-field emotions, that make Travis Kelce one of the best TEs in today’s era. Hopefully, these traits will also help him get another ring, and the Kansas City Chiefs their 4th Lombardi Trophy.
