It’s not uncommon for players to have various superstitions and pre-game rituals. While some can be pretty logical and understandable, a few may be hilarious, or straight-up bizarre. Take the Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes for example. He has a bizarre superstition regarding his underwear, which he considers to be a lucky charm.

Talking to the Manning brothers, the quarterback revealed that he was wearing that piece of clothing for every Chiefs game. But what if, just in case, someone wanted to feel like Patrick Mahomes in terms of underwear at least? How much would they have to cash out? The amount might surprise you.

Firstly, Mahomes started with “I only wear them on game day though, they’re not too worn out”, to make sure the hosts knew that his superstition was not bad for his health and that he was maintaining the hygiene with the clothing. Then the QB also confirmed that he would keep wearing them as long as they were getting the results. “As long as we’re winning football games, I’ll keep the superstition going.” But other than the lucky factor, why has the QB not tried to replace or even replicate it with a new one? Maybe unnecessary investment, or probably out of production?

Actually, neither of these seems to be the case. The clothing is still very much available on its brand site. The product is named Always In Motion Boxer 5″, and is an offering from the Canadian-American athleisure retailer Lululemon Athletica. It is listed for a rather humble price of $28, which is just about $5 higher than the average cost of underwear in the country, according to many sources on the internet. In the context of Mahomes’ reported net worth of $70 million, Mahomes can get a thousand of these at a time if he wants to. So the answer remains unclear as to why he is uninterest to replace or replicate the product he considers as his lucky charm.

His fans can finally get the feel of being in Mahomes shoes, we mean underwear, without worrying about their pockets. But what are some other NFL superstitions that stand out to this day? Some of them are delicious enough for the fans to try them right away.

Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly was a happy man to have this superstition. He loved to feast on a big chunk of roasted chicken at a local restaurant before his games. Legendary Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher had a pretty sweet ritual too in contradiction to his large and intimidating stature. The big man would reportedly snack on some chocolate cookies gifted to him by former Bears’ trainer Tim Bream, before every game.

The Panthers had one more superstitious player too, who to some extent emulated Patrick Mahomes. Quarterback Cam Newton had a particular pregame shoe from Under Armour that the quarterback liked to wear. But what’s interesting here is, rather than the shoe itself, Newton liked to look good with the beautiful color patterns of the shoe during his pre-games. We don’t know if we can call it superstition or not, but it is for sure much more expensive than Mahomes who gets his underwear for just $28. And the latter quarterback has ironically achieved more with his ‘cheaper’ lucky charm than the former.
