Life really is throwing curveballs, and Randi Mahomes is feeling all the feels right now. On one hand, she’s celebrating her granddaughter Sterling Skye‘s 4th birthday. But on the other, she’s grieving the loss of her father, Randy Martin, who passed away just days before.

On February 20, Randi hit up Instagram to show love for little Sterling, posting, “Happy 4th birthday to my granddaughter Sterling Skye. I love you forever 🩷🩷🩷🩷.” But behind that sweet post, her heart is heavy. Just eight days earlier, she had to say goodbye to her dad.

Randy Martin: A father’s love that time can’t take away

Some goodbyes come too soon, no matter how much time you’ve had. For Randi Mahomes, losing her father, Randy Martin, has been a heartbreak unlike any other. He wasn’t just her dad. He was her rock, her quiet protector, the man who always had the right words when life felt overwhelming. On February 12, 2025, at the age of 78, he took his final breath, leaving behind a family that adored him. Randi, holding his hand as he slipped away, shared her pain in the rawest way: “Hard to find the words of holding my father’s hand as he goes to Heaven. I know he’s in a better place. I love you Daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23.” But even knowing he’s at peace doesn’t make the silence he left behind any easier.

Randy spent more than 30 years as a school principal, shaping many young lives and offering the same kind of steady guidance to his own children. To Randi Mahomes, though, he was so much more than a man with wisdom—he was warmth, comfort, and a reminder that no matter how hard life got, she always had a safe place to land. Even in his final days, his words carried weight. In a handwritten note he left behind, he wrote: “Share the most precious gift – your time.” And now, that’s the one thing Randi wishes she had more of. Just one more conversation. One more laugh. One more chance to hear him say everything would be okay.

Despite being in hospice, Randy fought to hold on just a little longer, knowing his grandson, Patrick Mahomes, was on the verge of another Super Bowl moment. But time had other plans. Patrick and Co. lost. He didn’t get to see his grandkid take the field one last time with the Super Bowl trophy. But the love he poured into his family will be felt in every touchdown, every victory, and every moment they cherish together. Because some legacies don’t fade with time—they live on in the people who carry them forward.
