A cannon arm with a quiet aura is the media reputation of Justin Herbert. The Chargers’ QB was critiqued often for his silence, raising questions about his NFL leadership. From winning the 2019 12 Pac Championship to the 6th overall pick for the Los Angeles Chargers, Herbert has done it all. But the views on him as a quiet leader didn’t change. However, the insiders have a different say on his reserved persona.

On July 18’s Up & Adams show, Rashwan Slater gave a candid glimpse into the flip side of his QB. Surprisingly, the Chargers’ OT said, “It’s funny everyone that calls Justin a quiet leader isn’t actually on the team.” Seems like the locker room has a different perception of Herbert.

He gets riled up, he talks sh*t, he’s vocal.” said Slater in regards to Herbert on the Up & Adams show. Mastering pressure-packed and split-second decisions is the hallmark of an elite QB. And, per Slater, the Chargers’ QB is not afraid of speaking when required.

Although Slater spoke of the real side of Herbert, the Chargers tackle also revealed intriguing insights into his leadership style. “He’s a great leader,” said the rookie while sharing his views on the elite QB. Moreover, Slater emphasized the fact that actions speak louder than words, thus challenging the perception of Herbert as a ‘Quiet’ leader.

But that’s what Slater thinks of Herbert as a leader. What about the views of the Chargers’ coach? Does he share the same opinion as the offensive tackle?

Have an interesting take?

Although the arrival of Jim Harbaugh is a fair breeze to the Chargers, the spotlight falls on his connection with Justin Herbert. The Chargers’ QB is an expert in football in the eyes of his coach. Furthermore, the coach called his QB an ‘incredible talent’, “Nobody more than [S] Derwin James [Jr.] and Justin Herbert. Those two have been really off the charts and incredible, set the tone, and been leaders by example the entire offseason.” And, Herbert also holds his coach in high regard, “He’s a competitor. He’s done such a great job of taking this team and getting them to where he wants us to go“.

If the mutual support between the coach and QB is something to go by, the Chargers are all set for the road to glory. However, having an injury laden season previously, Herbert and Harbaugh will have to focus on avoiding any such repeats for the coming season. Do you think Herbert’s leadership can bring the Super Bowl to the Chargers?
