Steve Young carefully analyzed the two standout quarterbacks in the league of the last game. The highly anticipated Sunday game between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs captured the attention of the entire NFL community. And Young, who was equally excited, shared what he felt about the quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, along with a personal admission.

The Chiefs defeated the Bills 24-27 at Highmark Stadium in their divisional round. Although the two gave equal competition to each other, the Chiefs’ time-to-time lead helped them win over a strong rival. Steve Young, who also wished to play a game like that, praised the quarterbacks, especially Allen, for his leadership role.

In the latest episode of the Rich Eisen show on Monday, Hall of Famer Steve Young shared his thoughts after the AFC divisional game. When asked for his thoughts about the two quarterbacks, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, Young called himself “selfish.” He expressed how watching these QBs reminded him of the game he could only dream about playing when he was active 20 years ago.

He also noted that back then, he was considered an oddity, but now the style of play he had was the prototype. Young believes that having a quarterback who can dominate the league is essential in reaching and winning the Super Bowl.

He observed Mahomes and Allen going back and forth, putting on their superhero performances. According to Young, the key is that these quarterbacks not only wear the Superman cape but also possess the sophistication in the passing game to call plays, decipher defenses, and effectively get the ball out. Specifically, Young commented on Allen, saying that he “is asked to do too much. He needs more help, and because of that, he has to put the Superman cape on more often,” making decisions in the play.

Not only this, but Young also acknowledged the mental complexity these quarterbacks face each week, deciding when to stick to the planned play and when to go for something spectacular. He concluded by emphasizing that the game has become a showcase of these quarterback superheroes, and without one, a team may struggle to make it to the Super Bowl.
