Last time ahead of the 2023 Super Bowl, coach Andy Reid revealed that he isn’t planning to leave as he has a young quarterback (Patrick Mahomes) on his team. After winning the Super Bowl 2024, that quarterback came forward to reveal how special Reid is for the team. Mahomes appeared in a virtual interview with NFL Total Access from Disneyland during his post-game traditional celebration with family.

Acknowledging the worthiness of Reid in his life, Mahomes said, “I think it’s the best place I could end up. I mean, with coach Reid, I think he lets you be you. I think the biggest thing is he doesn’t try to change the way I play. He just refines it and he just keeps making me better and keeps preaching the fundamentals at the same time.

The 3 time Super Bowl champion continued about the coach that he “let me go out there and play the game the way I play. And so it’s the best place for me and them all, and even more than that, he makes me a better person every single day, and that just speaks to the coach what he is and he’s made me the best quarterback I could possibly be.”

That is indeed a special tribute to the coach who has spent his 25 seasons with the NFL and 11 seasons with the Chiefs.

Ahead of the Super Bowl game, Reid earlier that week admitted that his parents have always told him to continue working, as “you’ll know when it’s time,’ and I’m ready to go right now.” Reid accepted that he enjoys every single day with his quarterback and the team, and so this is not the time for his retirement.

Chiefs’ owner, Clark Hunt also expressed his desire to NFL Network post-game, stating: “My pitch to him is Patrick is under contract for another eight years. … I expect Andy to be back next year as we go for the three-peat.”

The 65-year-old head coach led the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers  with a 25-22 overtime victory. With a few more seasons under his headset, Reid could find himself rewriting the record books, inching ever closer to the legendary Don Shula’s wins tally. Reid holds the line at fourth, a mere 70 victories shy of Shula’s hallowed 328.
