Is Brock Bowers the next Gronk? Can he really surpass the legend in the NFL?

Raider Nation, who stole your hearts against the Ravens? One of the best players on Sunday was the rookie tight end Brock Bowers. With 9 receptions for 98 yards in week 2 game, he showed grit. We earlier saw it during his debut NFL game against the Chargers. He had 6 receptions in 58 yards during the 22-10 loss. But after the win against the Ravens, his stock is trending upward.

Bowers’ teammate Davante Adams praised him on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams. Appearing with one of the best TEs of all time, Rob Gronkowski, the WR said, “The type of kid he is, he only cares about football. He shows some promise of looking like the gentleman present on the screen.” Gronk shared Adams’ views and said, “I agree with that Davante.” Adams was excited and surprised at the same time upon hearing this.

The ex-NFL TE has been following Brock Bowers since Georgia Bulldogs’ days. While praising the rookie’s performance in the first 2 games, he said, “The guy is a winner. The guy is a playmaker. I love his explosiveness after the catch. I just feel like he is on track, you know, to be better than myself.” Big props from the Super Bowl winner. Getting such a big praise from the legend himself, he must be feeling great. But Gronk also pointed out a shortcoming and record.

I don’t think he can dominate in the trenches the way I dominated in the trenches. I think he can surpass me in most departments. He already has 15 catches, the most by any rookie of all time in the first 2 games. So shout out to Brock Powers. I am a big fan.” When was the last time we heard a 2-game rookie leave so much impression? Brock Bowers still has a long way to go. But the Raiders TE had made big strides.

Have an interesting take?

He was the 13th overall pick of Raiders in the 2024 NFL Draft. Already in history books (for most receptions in the first 2 NFL games), the TE just missed the first touchdown of his NFL career by one yard. His pass-catching game has been top-notch. With such spectacular performances, he found 3rd place in Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski’s weekly rookie rankings. Pro Football Focus’ Gordon McGuinness ranked him 4th in rookie rankings.

He isn’t an ordinary rookie. Brock Bowers led Georgia in receptions in all 3 seasons. The TE won the John Mackey Award twice, in 2022 and 2023, proving himself as the best TE in the nation. From 2021 to 2023, he had 175 receptions for 2,538 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

He is set to better Gronk‘s record in rookie season. In his rookie season (2010), the 4-time Super Bowl winner had 42 receptions with 546 yards. Brock Bowers already has 15 catches with 156 yards. Will he be able to take Raiders to the playoffs? We’ll find out very soon.
