Daniel Jones suffered a torn ACL in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2023 season. Following the injury, he saw himself out for the entirety of the season. Despite that, the QB is set to make about $35 million this year and the Giants are not willing to get rid of him any time soon. The team’s HC Brian Daboll made the intentions clear once again.
But Jones’ performance has been nothing out of the ordinary. It makes one think whether the Giants are keeping him around because they don’t want to account for dead money or they genuinely believe in the quarterback. The Giants hold the No. 6 pick in the coming April Draft and with prospects like JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Drake Maye at their disposal, the choice of staying stagnant with their current QB falls under questioning.
Will the Giants give up their pick?

An excerpt from The NFL Report has everyone scratching their heads. The hosts pointed out how the Commanders are trying to revamp their roster around a young QB and require some new prospects. The projection right now screams that the Commanders will take JJ McCarthy as their 2 overall pick. But that’s not enough. Their roster has been somewhat weak and needs overall reinforcement.
Amidst this, the conversation shifted toward another team possibly in need of a new QB. However, here, the hosts pointed out that Brian Daboll told them that Daniel Jones is still “the guy” when he makes it back from the injury. Currently, the Giants don’t intend to trade him anywhere. So, does that mean they will forfeit their No. 6 pick? That’s unlikely. Even if they are not in the market for a quarterback, there are other prospects available for the team to grab.
Besides, the Giants just signed Drew Lock to the roster as their backup QB. The hosts pointed out that besides the Commanders, teams like the Las Vegas Raiders are also looking for a QB. Who knows, they might secretly offer a deal to the Giants to trade for their picks. However, there has been some interesting news surfacing recently surrounding the matter.
Are the Giants interested in other prospects?
Per a couple of sources, the Commanders aren’t the only ones interested in the Michigan QB McCarthy. The Giants are also interested in picking him up, per John Healy of Yahoo. The problem also comes from the fact that they’ve traded a renowned RB Saquon Barkley to the Eagles. In his place, they added Devin Singletary. Whether this decision will work out or not will be visible in the future.

As far as their QB situation goes, Daboll showcased his faith in Drew Lock as a backup when he said, “We’re excited to have Drew, and he knows what his role is going to be.” Daboll said. “He’s going to get a lot of reps this spring, he needs to learn our system, but again, excited to get Daniel back.”

What’s apparent is that the Commanders are most likely to choose the best possible option in the upcoming draft because they have the upper hand. But that doesn’t mean that the Giants can’t trade on the side for a better future.
