The Kansas City Chiefs disposed of the Miami Dolphins in style last Sunday in Frankfurt. Once again, their superstar QB Patrick Mahomes was the showstopper. But as the league now ventures into the second half, each game becomes even more important. Is the Chiefs’ roster strong enough to take on the burden? Especially the QB position.
Patrick Mahomes is undoubtedly one of the best QBs in the NFL today. The 28-year-old has led the Kansas City Chiefs to two Super Bowl Wins. He is the face of the franchise, the leader of the offense, and the most valuable player on the team. But with only one backup QB on the roster, is he also the most overworked player on the team?

Chad Henne previously shared the QB responsibilities with Mahomes. But earlier this season Henne retired after serving in the backup QB role for 5 years with Mahomes. And the Chiefs management didn’t bolster the position much after losing a long-time servant of the franchise.
They signed Blaine Gabbert, a 33-year-old veteran who has played for six teams in his 12-year career. Gabbert has seen minimal action in 2023, appearing in only one game and throwing for 31 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also been sacked three times and tackled once on defense. He is not the ideal option to relieve Mahomes or replace him in case of injury.

This means that Mahomes must shoulder the entire burden of the Chiefs’ passing game, which is not an easy task in a league that is becoming more competitive and physical every year. With the mouth-watering rematch against the Eagles next, the Chiefs will want Mahomes to be at his very best.

But they are still fighting for seeding and home-field advantage.
The game will be a high-stakes showdown between two of the best teams in the NFL, with potential implications for the postseason. The Chiefs will try to extend their winning streak and secure the top seed in the AFC, while the Eagles will try to avenge their Super Bowl loss and improve their position in the NFC.
