Micah Parsons roasting Mike McCarthy—Is this the kind of team spirit the Cowboys need?

The Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons has left everyone confused—he’s taking snaps as a running back. It took a lot of convincing from Parsons to get the coaching staff and Mike McCarthy to entertain his request. The run wasn’t that impressive, but we did get some banter from it.

Coach McCarthy poked fun at Parsons’ newfound talent, saying, “That was a terrible mistake by the head coach. Don’t know what he was thinking. And I didn’t like (Parsons) reads either.” In his defense, the Cowboys’ LB rebutted by saying that his pad levels were a bit high on the second carry, “but when it comes game time full speed, I’ll be a little lower.”

As it happens, McCarthy isn’t the only one with jokes up his sleeve. Micah Parsons is a bit of a troll too. He couldn’t just stand by and watch Coach McCarthy have his way. He had a funny comeback planned: “Has Mike ever played running back in his life? Someone who has never played the position can’t question somebody’s reads. You just gotta let me be a football player.”

Is Parsons full of himself? We can’t really tell. He went to Japan with C.J. Stroud during the offseason and got absolutely manhandled by a sumo wrestler. So, we might want to take his words with a grain of salt. If you think Parsons playing RB was good banter, wait till he turns 30. Apparently, he wants to transition to offense when he reaches his physical peak and plans to ask Jerry Jones to let him do it.

“I’m going to say, ‘I’m either playing offense or I’m going to retire, Jerry. I’m at that end of the road. I’m either living my dream or I’m not anymore,” said Micah Parsons. “So, when I’m 30 I might finally get my carry, or I might play tight end like big Witt (Jason Witten). I can block, too. I can do it all.”

While Micah Parsons switching sides to play offense remains a pipe dream, he has a real shot at switching defensive positions. In fact, he’s going to do that starting next year.

A contract extension that will for Micah Parsons to try new things

The 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year missed the entire voluntary OTAs because he was seeking a new deal as his rookie contract is about to come to an end. “Yeah, you know, I think the more years you have, the more you understand that there’s also like the business side to it,” Parsons said, per NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

“You know, and I think that’s what camp is for. I mean, there was a time where Aaron Donald didn’t even go to camp, and he won Defensive Player of the Year and then went to the playoffs.” As it turns out, America’s Team did fulfill his wish. The Cowboys picked up Parsons’ fifth-year option, but there was a catch.

Parsons will be playing as a Defensive End and not a Linebacker. He will be paid a guaranteed sum of $21.32 million for the 2025 season. He contributed 36 solo tackles, 14 sacks, and a lone forced fumble as a linebacker last season. He truly is an indispensable part of the Dallas Cowboys’ defense. Maybe in the future, the Dallas team will lock him in for the long term.

“I know they got to get CeeDee Lamb done,” Parsons said when asked about his contract situation on the NFL Network in February. “I think that’s a priority right now. But if they’re ready to talk about a deal and get a deal done, I’ll be super excited. I’m ready to be a Cowboy for life.”

“This is the team I wanted to be with. This is the team I wanted to win a championship with. What’s meant for me is meant for me. I’m not going to rush the process. I’m just going to enjoy the process and keep working until it’s time.”

However, things have come a long way since February. CeeDee Lamb is now addressing Jerry Jones with a “lol.” Micah Parsons reshared the post on X. Maybe he finds some humor in all this, or maybe he knows that he, Dak, and CeeDee will be sitting with Jerry Jones and laughing after everyone gets their extensions.
