The Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, is facing boatloads of criticism right now. During his commencement speech at Benedictine College last weekend, The Super Bowl-winning kicker went on to chastise women about their roles, ridicule the LGBTQ community, and have a few things to say about the POTUS as well.

Butker laid out his ideologies that held women as ‘homemakers’, even in this century, and unsurprisingly it got a heavy backlash. The female students present at the liberal arts school in Atchison, Kansas, couldn’t believe they were getting slandered for giving priority to their education. Like many, the issue got the attention of Keyshawn Johnson and his friend LZ Granderson, who spoke about the debacle in detail on their podcast, All Facts, No Brakes.

Keyshawn Johnson wanted to know Granderson’s thoughts on Butker’s controversial opinions on IVF, surrogacy, the Pride march, and women being told “the most diabolical lies.” Per Granderson, the problem was not with the Chiefs kicker, but with the university, which invited Butker without thinking about what he was going to say in his speech.

Per the guest, female graduates in the crowd didn’t attend the university to “raise kids.” On the contrary, they were there to make something out of their careers. Granderson pointed out how Butker pulled on his life experience to chastise women’s values and to question Biden’s faith rather than delivering an inspirational speech.

“He took that moment, and he ridiculed the queer students out there, he ridiculed progressives/non MAGA people, but more importantly, he took that moment and he just shat all over all those young women who worked so hard to get to that degree,” said the journalist and actor, Granderson.

The 485 graduates in the crown were fuming about the comments Butker had made about women. Susannah Leisegang, a graphics design graduate of the institute, took to her TikTok account and said, “It was definitely horrible and it definitely made graduation feel a little less special knowing I had to sit through that and get told I’m nothing but a homemaker.”

The hosts acknowledged that Butker’s speech was calculated and conscious and dubbed him a “knucklehead” for his behavior. Even the whole sport is subtly throwing shade at Butker for his remarks. The Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, the NFL, and even the city of Kansas have been vocal about Butker’s speech.

Are Chiefs dissociating themselves from Harrison Butker?

Patrick Mahomes was among the few Chiefs players who decided that he didn’t want to be included in any part of this controversy. Patrick Mahomes went to the Pat McAfee Show and said, “Honestly, I don’t talk to Harrison all year long, man. I just let him do his thing.”

Even the NFL admitted that the statement was “in his personal capacity… his views are not those of the NFL.” But that’s not all.

A Jackson County plan commissioner, Justice Horn, took to X and wrote, “Harrison Butker doesn’t represent Kansas City nor has he ever. Kansas City has always been a place that welcomes, affirms, and embraces our LGBTQ+ community members. 🌈

The backlash has divided people into two groups: some think Butker’s comments have some weight to them, and others are outright taking issue with his ideologies.
