Is Harrison Butker's bold stance a rallying cry for Christians in today's political climate?

With Americans heading to their polling stations today. Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has a strong message to America’s Christians after announcing his support for Republican candidate Donald Trump last month. Although he didn’t exactly attend a Trump rally heading into the elections, Butker did endorse Missouri Senator Josh Hawley in October.

And he has also been pretty vocal with his stance on encouraging Christians to vote in this year’s elections. Soon after appearing for Hawley’s campaign in Missouri, Butker announced the creation of the UPRIGHT PAC. “I am also excited to announce the creation of the UPRIGHT PAC as a way to promote and encourage Christian voters to vote so that their voices are heard this November.” Well, after a month, he has now urged the American votes to head to their polls by posting a message on his Instagram.

Thanking everyone for their donations to his initiative, Butker posted a series of clips that showcased the Christians possibly compromised under the current government. While urging his faith to vote in numbers, “Christians! Head to the polls today. Vote to keep God in America. Vote President Trump. Thankful for the support of my PAC so we can release this essential commercial. Uprightpac.org.” Soon after posting his message on Instagram, Butker found an unlikely supporter in Patrick Mahomes’ mom, Randi, who liked his post.

Well, Butker has been an avid supporter of Christianity with his vocal speeches in public. After getting bashed for his commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas City. Butker decided to address that backlash without being unapologetic, “In my seven years in the NFL, I have become familiar with the positive and negative comments. But the majority of them revolved around my performance on the field. But as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith. The more polarizing I’ve become.”

He even spoke about glorifying God instead of themselves, “Glorifying God and not ourselves should always remain our motivation despite any pushback or even support. I lean on those closest to me for guidance. But I can never forget that it is not people but Jesus Christ who I am trying to please.” Although such comments may not have gone well for some fans, the Chiefs Kingdom didn’t criticize their kicker for his beliefs.

On the back of his Upright Pac creation, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt appreciated Butker’s move to use his platform to make a difference, “One of the things I talk to the players every year about at training camp is using their platform to make a difference. We have players on both sides of the political spectrum. Both sides of whatever controversial issue you want to bring up. I’m not at all concerned when our players use their platform to make a difference.” Those reactions didn’t stop there, as Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes also shared his thoughts on it.

“There are certain things that he said that I don’t necessarily agree with. But I understand the person that he is, and he’s trying to do whatever he can to lead people in the right direction.” Well, moving away from the Chiefs Kingdom, the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also chimed in with his thoughts, “We have 3000 players. We have executives around the league. They have diversity of opinions and thoughts just like America does. That’s something we treasure.”

As Butker urges his fate to vote in numbers on Nov 5th. He continues to be vocal on his stance regarding Christian beliefs. Will his latest post change the dynamics of today’s election? Well, we will soon find out as America gears up for a tense day at polling stations.
