A couple of days ago, news broke that the 49ers’ practice field at UNLV had some issues and was spongy. Roger Goodell quickly shut down the rumors and mentioned that the field got the green light unanimously. However, none of this seems to please Brock Purdy at all.

By the looks of it, the San Francisco 49ers QB is still feeling things out a little bit and we will get to know tomorrow how the practice field really feels like. In the wake of the upcoming Super Bowl, Purdy appeared on the opening night and spoke to the media on various things.

Field conditions don’t bother Brock Purdy

The media quickly asked Purdy about the field because the news made it to everybody. The San Fran QB was inquired about the state of the field and whether he’s had a chance to practice yet.

“I mean, today we didn’t have as an aggressive practice in terms of the hard running, the cutting, and stuff that’s tomorrow. But today I feel like it was pretty good just in terms of  us getting out there and sort of you know moving around, you know light running and whatnot so that was that so we’ll see tomorrow though, how it is,” said Purdy.

When the news about the bad field conditions broke to the public, it was also pointed out that the 49ers were seriously thinking about going back to Santa Clara and resuming practice there. The first reason was, of course, the spongy grass, and the other was the resort they were staying in.

The place where the Niners were staying was 20 miles away from the location of practice. Hence, there was an added fatigue there. However, by the looks of it, there might not be enough time left to make that move. Besides, Purdy already made his intentions clear about staying in Vegas and keep practicing.

Additional problems with the UNLV practice field

Ian Rapoport was one of the first ones to shed light on the situation. His tweet suggested that “scores” were assigned to the field. While the acceptable scores were from 70 to 80, the 49ers practice field scored about 40-50. However, Goodell and his team didn’t see this as a roadblock and gave the green light instead.

The Kansas City Chiefs are practicing at the Las Vegas Raiders headquarters, which is the Allegiant Stadium itself. However, per last month’s report from Scotty Gange, the Broncos writer, the Allegiant field wasn’t well maintained either. There were patches of bald spots, and they could easily cause instability and lead to injuries, something Allegiant is notoriously famous for in the first place.
