Travis Kelce’s got competition now! He might have been the favorite target of Mahomes till now. However, now there’s a new target on the scene. Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice. On Sunday, the Chiefs triumphed over the Dolphins. And Mahomes usually spreads out the ball. He likes giving the opportunity to everyone. However, in the Wild Card round, he zeroed in on just two.

And it seems like he might eventually narrow his choice down to just one. Rice. It seems that age is finally catching up with Travis Kelce. And in the Sunday game, he wasn’t at his best.

Kelce struggled to find a footing during the entire game. Weather conditions were not ideal. The temperatures had fallen to -4 degrees. However, during the early game, he dropped several key passes. It looked like he wasn’t himself on Sunday. The worst was when he dropped a pass at the line of scrimmage. No defender was even pressuring him!

His entire season has been uncharacteristic. And if he goes further down this path, it could be his first sub-1,000-yard season in eight years! Travis just recorded 71 yards in this game, on seven catches.

The highlight of his day? When he got out of a defensive pickle and secured a first down in the third quarter. How has Rice’s season been as compared to Kelce?

Rashee Rice keeps soaring

Much to Kelce’s chagrin, Rice is soon coming up as Mahomes’ favorite. He has averaged 9.3 targets per game in the last six games. And he was targeted two times more than Kelce as well. After the game was over, what did he have to boast? 130 yards and 1 touchdown on eight catches. His yardage is actually a franchise playoff record by a rookie. The entire AFC should be wary of him from now on!

What was Rice’s highlight? It also happened in the third quarter. He seemed to writhe in pain after making a catch. But then, despite the injury, he returned to the game and continued playing. Chiefs’ fans need not panic! Rice later explained that it was just a tweaked ankle.

During the start of the season, it looked like the Chiefs were in wideout hell. But now it seems that have finally found their answer in Rice. How will the duo continue to play in the upcoming games?
