Did Haason Reddick's holdout pay off, or did he settle for less than he deserved?

The NFL season’s rolling and teams are making moves to get ready for a playoff run. One of the coolest stories this season is Haason Reddick coming back to the New York Jets. After ditching the team for six months, it’s a chance for both him and the Jets to hit the reset button. With so much talent on the Jets’ roster, adding Reddick is like finding the secret sauce they’ve been missing.

In a recent update from ESPN, Reddick’s agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the new contract. He’s getting the rest of his 2024 salary—around $9 million—and can make back those hefty fines with sack incentives.

As Breer put it on Twitter: “He’ll get the remainder of his base salary, and a shot to earn back the fine money he lost during camp through sack-based incentives.” So, if Reddick gets after the quarterback? He stands to make some serious cash.

But, why was Reddick MIA for so long? Well, after getting traded from the Eagles to the Jets in March, he thought he’d find a comfy spot with a solid long-term deal. But that didn’t happen! He felt he was getting the short end of the stick with a non-guaranteed contract of $14.25 million.

Fed up with it all, he sat out the offseason and the first chunk of the season. Along the way, he even asked for a trade and switched agents. The Jets stood their ground, though, and after some back-and-forth, they struck a deal that worked for everyone.

Their next game against the Pittsburgh Steelers will be a big deal for Reddick—his first test since coming back. It’s gonna tell us a lot about how much he can shift the vibe in that defensive locker room.

Now what does Reddick bring to the field? With 58 sacks over seven seasons, he is one of the top-edge rushers out there. The Jets’ defense already has 20 sacks this season.

However, that’s tied for third in the league. Reddick can amp up that pressure and disrupt opposing offenses. Plus, this all comes on the heels of the Jets snagging star wide receiver Davante Adams. So they’re gunning for a turnaround after a rough start.
