This statistic is unbelievable! If you are a Chargers fan, you are going to love this. Here it goes: The Los Angeles Chargers have only been intercepted once this season. And there’s more. Listen to this – They are also tied at 4th for takeaway interceptions, 13 along with the Steelers, and the Bills. Yes, these are the same old talented underachieving Justin Herbert-led Chargers from the last season.
They went home 5-12 last season. Cut to Week 14 of the NFL 2024 season and surprise, surprise, they are sitting comfortably at 8-4. They hired Jim Harbaugh as HC and Justin Herbert has been running down the field like never before. On the Chargers Unleashed podcast, Offensive Coach Greg Norman praised his QB1’s execution this season: “It’s really setting the tone for us, and winning football games.” Norman also echoed the Chargers’ disciplined offensive mentality adding, ‘sacks don’t lose games, turnovers do’.
#Chargers OC Greg Roman harped on the point that sacks don’t lose games, turnovers do, and the importance of protecting the football. On how Justin Herbert is executing that:

Jim Harbaugh’s men have won 5 of their last 6 games. Their Week 14 rivals, the Chiefs though, have lost just one game in the season, sitting at 11-1 with their eyes set on clinching the AFC West Division. The disciplined Chargers would be ready to take advantage of the Chiefs’ struggling offensive line on December 9 at home. Patrick Mahomes would be raring to knock the wind out of the sails of criticism surrounding their offense.
The last time both the AFC West rivals met in Week 4, it was a battle of the defenses. Chiefs edged out the Chargers 17-10. But the LA team has improved, drastically since then winning 6 and losing just 2 games. Their ex-Oregon QB played with a bad ankle the last time. But that’s sorted now, and he has transformed into a ball keeper—a man who makes the big plays.
If the ball’s with Justin Herbert it’s safe

In case you didn’t notice, Justin has been giving his teammates high-fives with his left hand this season. Well, it’s the head coach’s orders! Harbaugh has been trying to keep the Chargers’ most precious hand out of harm’s way. He seems determined to change the culture of the team and instill a sense of responsibility. The numbers tell the same story.
Up until the Chiefs game, Justin Herbert had only rushed the ball a meager 24 yards on 14 attempts (1.71 yards per attempt) with a bad ankle. The 2021 Pro-Bowler’s ankle story has since then been completely different. Justin has rushed the ball 187 yards on 38 attempts (4.92 yards per attempt) in the last 8 games.
And he has proved his mettle as a QB1 with big plays in crucial moments. Chargers almost squandered a 21-point lead against the Bengals in Week 11. The Bengals came from behind to tie the score at 27-27. But a missed McPherson 51-yard field goal proved costly. The Chargers got the ball back. Justin threw for 55 yards on the next 2 plays. Dobbins ran into the end zone on the next play to close out any chances of a successful Bengals comeback.

The week 10 matchup against the Titans at home saw keep-the-ball-safe Justin in its prime. Justin rushed the ball 9 times, covering 32 yards, crusading through the Titans’ defense, working tirelessly to score his first touchdown and give them the much-needed lead going into the 2nd half.
If that’s not some commitment to keeping the ball and possession safe, we don’t know what is. Jim Harbaugh’s arrival in LA has brought in massive positive changes in its QB and the team. They look destined for the playoffs. It would be interesting to see how deep of a run this team makes, come playoffs.
