July 17, 2021, was a dark day. Greg Knapp, the assistant coach for the New York Jets, was out riding his bike in San Ramon, California. He was in a bike lane when a driver hit him. The 58-year-old was rendered unconscious immediately and needed help, but the driver never stopped. Knapp, who was taken to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, died on July 22 and this incident birthed ‘The Coach Knapp Memorial Fund’. In honor of his legacy, the NFL community climbs stairs to raise funds around the end of the year.

The stair climb was Knapp’s pregame routine. And this tradition was continued before Sunday’s game—the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons came together to honor the memory of Greg Knapp—the former 49ers coach. The game itself was a thriller that went into overtime, with the Commanders ultimately clinching the victory, 30-24. But it was the teams’ tribute to Knapp that moved many, including Ed McCaffrey, who took to Instagram to share his appreciation for this heartfelt gesture.

In the footage shared, both the team’s coaching staff could be seen donning Knapp’s memorial fund T-shirt, featuring “289,310 per year”  and also “The Coach Knapp” printed on it. This figure “289,310 per year” is reportedly an estimation that around 289,310 people have a motor accident in a year.

Christian McCaffrey’s father, Ed, loved this gesture. In a four-word message on his IG stories, he wrote, “This is a beautiful thing.” He further added, “RIP Coach Knapp (prayer emoji)” in the caption of the story.

This was the third annual Coach Knapp stair climb campaign. In fact, more than 500 coaches, players, and staff members have participated in various forms on game days, while raising over $250,000 to date.

“Greg Knapp was the ultimate teammate and friend. I had the honor and privilege of coaching with him with three different teams and the one ritual he taught me was to run the stairs before every single game,” shared Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn. “My coaching staff and I are excited to be partnering with Raheem Morris and the Atlanta Falcons staff to run the stairs together pregame before our game on Sunday night in honor of Greg and in support of The Coach Knapp Memorial Fund.”

Does resting players like Mahomes disrespect the game, or is it a smart strategy for playoffs?

Further, Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons—Raheem Morris—also shared his thoughts. “We continue to honor his legacy and memory by joining with Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders and participating in the Coach Knapp Stair Climb as we look to help curb distracted driving and protect all road users for good.”

Although Ed is giving his support to the NFL teams for honoring Coach Knapp, there is something else going on in the community that Christian McCaffrey’s dad isn’t happy about. What is it?

Christian McCaffrey’s father has a response to Patrick Mahomes’s thinking…

The Kansas City Chiefs have won all the games except one this season till Week 17. With this massive record, they now hold a home-field advantage and a first-round bye in the postseason. Hence, as there is just Week 18 left in the playoffs, many players, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes have decided to rest up for the big games ahead.

In fact, the coaches are also in favor of letting their key and injured players relax for some days so that they come up strong in the important matchups. Nothing wrong with this, right? Ed McCaffrey says, no!

Ed McCaffrey, who played with the Broncos from 1995 to 2003 as a WR, has a different ideology regarding this matter. This is evident in his recent statements, which he wrote in his previous IG story:I remember playing in so-called “meaningless” @NFL games at the end of the season. Let me tell ya something, every game has meaning. We play for our God, family, the respect of our coaches & teammates, fans, city & the list goes on and on… if you play today, make it count!

Now, with this post, it doesn’t mean he particularly aimed at Mahomes or other players of the league who are looking to rest up the next week. But you cannot deny the timings of both the updates. After Mahomes and his team decided to take a break, Ed McCaffrey posted this.

Nevertheless, in general terms, the Chiefs’s decision is considered the best, especially when they are facing some serious injuries. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
