The Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers game was pretty heated, with Dre Greenlaw nearly punching the Eagles’ Head of Security, Dom DiSandro, in his face. That too in his own home! Officials intervened, and both got ejected from the game in the third quarter. Since then, Greenlaw might have had some time to reflect.

The 49ers’ linebacker addressed everything in the post-game press conference and gave a glimpse of what was happening in the locker room after his early ejection from the game. It’s safe to say that the LB had a takeaway or two from the fiasco that ensued. The Eagles were left with a disappointing 23-point deficit and a big chip on their shoulder.

It was the third quarter when the Niners led the Eagles 21-6. Second and five started and Jalen Hurts decided to sling the ball to WR DaVonta Smith. The Niners LB caught wind of it, grabbed him from behind, and suplexed him out of bounds. This caused an argument between Smith and Dre Greenlaw, and Big Dom had to interfere. He tried to separate, and it might have been a little physical, but then Greenlaw met Big Dom’s face. After a commotion, they were ejected from the game. Both have exchanged apologies since then.

In the wake of this, Dre Greenlaw was asked about his mindset when approaching the game and balancing between being aggressive and “not crossing the line.” To this, he replied, “It’s a fine line; I feel like, um, just got to be smart about how just controlling it basically and not going above and trying, I don’t know, it’s hard, but you know, we find a way and just got to be better in those situations just you know don’t want to hurt the team and don’t want to cause flags and stuff like that.”

A reporter pointed out that the Niners also thrive off this aggressive energy, and the LB mentioned that the team liked making it physical. Or at least that’s their idea of making the game more fun. Greenlaw was not only ejected but also penalized for that tackle.

Though the nature of the game is physical, it should be noted that Dom DiSandro was protecting his team. And to some extent, Dre Greenlaw is aware of DiSandro’s predicament. He realizes DiSandro is just “doing his job.”
