More than 50 percent! Yes, this stat tells that the NFL has significantly grown its female viewership last season. For this, definitely the credit goes to the pop star, Taylor Swift! And guess what? Even Patrick Mahomes recently acknowledged the same.
In a recent interview with Chris Simms on Sunday Night Football, Patrick Mahomes revealed some interesting insights of the signing sensation, Swift, along with her effect that has boosted the NFL viewership. The 28-year-old QB mentioned the outcome of the league after Swift’s entry, “I think it’s been cool to see the girls & the women that have really embraced watching football. I know being a girl dad (Sterling’s father) how cool it is for me to see these little girls & daughters spending time with their dad watching football.”
He further continued, “Then, meeting Taylor & realizing how genuine & cool she is, that’s been special to me because she’s the most famous person in the world. She’s really interested in football….” Well, that’s true! If we look at the stats after Taylor Swift’s box seat appearance in the Kansas City Chiefs’ games, “The NFL’s viewership experienced a 53% spike among teenage girls, a 24% increase among women aged 18-24, and a 34% rise among women aged 35 and above.” Surprisingly, this is the highest regular-season female viewership since the league started collecting that data in 2000.

So, yes, the 14-time Grammy winner has contributed to the league in an extremely powerful way, boosting their viewership and profits. Not only that! Swift is also likely contributing something to Patrick Mahomes’ team which the QB himself hinted at. But what is it?
According to Mahomes, Taylor Swift can help him and the Kansas City Chiefs to win the games! Now that sounds strange! And for the clarification, the allegations that the Chiefs win because of the NFL favoring them due to Swift, have nothing to do with the situation here. The actual context is Swift can literally help the Red Army to win some games in 2024, at least as per Mahomes’ recent comments.
The QB expressed, “….she’s asking a lot of great questions. She’s already drawing up plays. We might have to put one in.” Although he didn’t reveal those plays, his comments hints that the Chiefs might be using one of her plays in the 2024 season. So, it remains to be seen what’s the secret sauce of Tay-Tay!
Now, apart from that, this is a positive sign for Swift and the fans, who were often labeled as the “distractions” during the 2023 season.
Patrick Mahomes blew off the distraction part!
In the 2023 season, many critics slammed the NFL when Taylor Swift was shown on the big screen multiple times during the games. There were also reports that in the Chiefs’ game against the Jets at MetLife, Swift was shown at least 17 times, which irked many football fans. As a result, they started calling her “distractions” in the league, especially when her boyfriend, Travis Kelce’s performance, started to dip (an average of 41.8 yards per game compared to 108 yards) when she wasn’t around.

However, their friend and the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes dismissed all these allegations. In the same interview with Chris Simms, Mahomes expressed, “People act like it was a distraction. I was like no, this is just Travis, man.” According to the reigning champ, Tay-Tay is not a disturbance at all in the games. These statements are even reflected by coach Andy Reid earlier when he said this January, “There has been no distraction that way at all. And Travs handled it right, she’s handled it right, and we just move forward. So it hasn’t been a problem at all.”
Hence, though it might seem cameras panning towards Swift being a distraction to the football games, according to Patrick Mahomes & the Chiefs Army, they are comfortable and happy having her in the VIP box.
