The Giants are telling us a comeback story this offseason, and Russell Wilson is holding the mic this time. A team coming off a 3-14 season does not exactly scream Super Bowl contender. However, you wouldn’t know it from Russell Wilson’s vibes at his introductory press conference. His statements sound like the team is on their path to redemption.
Wilson, who at this point is no stranger to NFL teams throwing a curveball at him, had publicly expressed his wish to stay with the Steelers. However, he was shown the door on the very first day of free agency after just one year. Pittsburgh didn’t even consider giving him another shot.
So, the veteran QB had to shift homes yet again for the third time over the past three years. At his introductory press appearance, a reporter asked him the uncomfortable question about the same. “This is your third team in three years. So, what do you say to the Giants, and what do you say to yourself that’s not a player in decline?”

And Russ gave a very subtle response!
“First of all, you never feel like you do enough unless you win it all. And that’s how I’ve always felt. I’ve had some amazing years and different things along the way. So anytime you don’t win it all, as a competitor, as a warrior, you want to be able to win it all. And say you did it that year,” said Russ.
So, to all those who had thoughts of his retirement, it’s time to brush off those thoughts because he is not retiring until he wins.

Wilson has struggled after leaving the Seahawks in 2022. During the 2023 season, the Broncos even benched the QB in his final two games of the regular season. Notably, Russ debuted in Week 7 with the Steelers, recovering from a calf injury. However, after winning five games, he lost the rest of them.
Well, the 36-year-old’s confidence remains intact as he now shifts his focus to the Giants. The QB is ready to lead his new team, expecting to be the starter.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Russell Wilson truly lead the Giants to glory, or is he just a fading star?

Russell Wilson eyes QB1 role
The Giants‘ roster now includes two veteran QBs. Before bringing Wilson on board, the team signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal worth $8 million on March 21. After signing with the Giants, Winston shared in an interview with Mirror U.S. Sports and said, “I’m looking forward to getting me a nice job, where I can go and lead a team to some victories.”
With two veteran QBs on the roster, people are curious to understand who will be given the QB1 responsibilities.
Will it be Wilson or Winston? During his media appearance, the ex-Steelers QB did not shy away from saying he expects to get the starter role. “Yeah, I expect to be the starter and come in here and be ready to rock and roll every day. You’ve got to lead, I think this team is looking for someone to lead them in every way.”

It looks like Coach Brian Daboll will have a tough time making this decision, or maybe it will all depend on how both QBs perform. Interestingly, the Giants also have the third pick in the draft, which they might use to add another QB.
Talking about that, Wilson said, “Listen, I think that every NFL team nowadays has two or three quarterbacks, usually three nowadays, and so right now we have Tommy DeVito and Jameis (Winston) and myself, and we’re just excited to get to work.“
Russ has already shown off his game plan for the 2025 season at his introductory press conference. The QB has made it clear that he remains fully focused on getting to work by leading the team. Plus, he ensured to build a winning culture.
