Is Brian Daboll's time with the Giants running out, or can he turn this season around?

The New York Giants faced the same problem as the Cincinnati Bengals at the Sunday Night Football matchup. The offense was lackluster on both sides. Now, Brian Daboll, the Giants HC is deemed to have a sword hanging over his head. The firing season in the NFL has come early and many believe that Daboll might be next with their 2-4 record.

For the Giants HC and the team, it was a “tough loss” to deal with. There were a couple of times when Daniel Jones’ passes got deflected and he was picked off at one point. The HC took the stage after the game and clarified what went wrong with the Giants offense throughout the SNF game. Per Daboll, the Giants didn’t hit any “explosive plays.”

“With the pressure they looped around Germaine. We had a chance at Tracy or throw it at his feet if we don’t have him. It was a shot type of play to Theo. Again, if we got sacked, we got sacked, obviously we don’t want to turn the ball over in that situation and you can put that on me,” Daboll expressed in the presser. He was talking about the interception from Germaine Pratt that gave the Bengals the possession all over again. But there are other things that need addressing here.

When the Giants got the possession in the second half, they tried to go for it on a fourth and two on their own 38 and didn’t succeed. The defense had to cover up for the move and forced the fumble to limit the damage. The Giants were able to convert 3 of their 5 fourth downs but didn’t score on any of them.

Moreover, the New York Giants were also not able to convert a 4 and 3 from the Bengals 36. At this point, the team trained 10-7 and they had the option to go for a game-tying 54-yard field goal but didn’t do it. But there are more problems in the Giants’ offense, especially the ones pertaining to the special teams.

Greg Joseph missed two kicks, one from 47 yards and the other was a 45-yarder. Daniel Jones threw for 205 yards and also tried to rush the ball for another 56 yards but didn’t score on any of those passes or rushes. That leaves us with one question. Will all these lackluster choices get the head coach fired?

Has the two-minute warning begun for Brian Daboll?

Well, that’s likely not the case. Though he took the onus on him for failed fourth-down attempts, the fact that his kicker missed twice isn’t on him. But he did speak about the Germaine Pratt interception and took the blame upon himself after Daniel Jones was hit by BJ Hill when he tried to get rid of the ball. However, his focus was the loss of fourth-down opportunities where the team failed to convert.

“We turned the ball over down there on that drive, which was a good drive to come away with no points. I think five of 15, somewhere around there. Now we were aggressive on four down, which I thought we needed to be against this offense. But just couldn’t generate any explosive plays we did. We had the penalty. And then other than that, we didn’t hit many explosive plays,” Daboll said in the post-game presser.

The 17-7 loss has forced the Giants to be the last team in the NFC East with a 2-4 record. They will be hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at home. The divisional rivals seem to have an upper hand over the Giants and the next game won’t give the New York team a chance to come out on top because if they win, they will still be 3-4.
