The Giants never learn from their mistakes. When HC Brian Daboll announced Tommy DeVito as his QB1 last season, it seemed like DeVito would grab this opportunity with both hands. it felt like the perfect chance for DeVito to prove himself. But the 2024 season turned out to be a letdown for both the Giants and their young quarterback, especially after they parted ways with Daniel Jones midway through the year. While DeVito did not have enough options in November and had to stick with DeVito, the Giants honcho was expected to land a starting QB this free agency. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky had his own trifecta in mind for the Giants’ QB solution. “If I’m the Giants and you’re at No. 3, let’s say Cam Ward No. 1 and Shedeur goes No. 2, or Abdul Carter or someone else, and you say this is our plan,” Orlovsky said. But we all know that it is easier said than done. Now when the free agency is just two days away, the Giants have dropped a QB bombshell that could put them in the same hole as last season.

“From an organizational management perspective, betting on DeVito to be the QB1 would be foolish…” NFL analyst Matt Waldman did warn the Giants way back in 2023. But the Giants President John Mara and HC Daboll had other ideas, as they have just decided to give yet another chance to DeVito by signing him on a 1-year $1.03 million deal. Well, you may think landing a young QB at just $1 million may be a clever move but the question is; is DeVito good enough?

Usually, fans always support their favorite club, regardless of their poor performance. Thinking that there will be better future signings, a resolution to the problem from previous years, and, who knows, a new head coach. But nuh-uh, the New York Giants refuse to evolve. They did not fire their prior head coach Brian Daboll, and now this.

But why is everyone hating DeVito’s re-signing so much? The QB gathered a lot of hype, but not only did he fail to deliver, also he lost the coaching staff’s trust. He struggled on the field, in three games he scored only 31 completed passes for 257 yards and no TDs in the last season. This factor has made the fans lose faith in him. And now, they hate his re-signing.

The team had numerous choices available to them. Even well-known players like Sam Darnold were entering free agency. Rumors circulated that the team was considering signing him. Plus, according to recent sources, the Vikings will not be seeking him as their starting QB next season. Something similar occurred in 2018 when the Broncos elected to sign Case Keenum over picking Josh Allen. Results? The team went on to get 6-10 in that season.

And if we talk today, everyone can see how great of a QB the Broncos missed, and the QB they signed was subsequently released after only one season with them. While we’re on the subject of Giants fans, let’s take a look at some of their reactions to the re-signing.

Fans already predict what the New York Giants will do during the 2025 season

It hurts different when your own fan base predicts your downfall. And that is exactly what is happening with the Giants. The team’s Tommy DeVito re-singing post on Instagram has received a lot of hate. They began to suggest that the team wouldn’t be doing anything this year either: “Welp see y’all in 2026 with the 3rd pick again.” Now this is something you won’t be looking forward to hearing from the fans of your own team. But again can we really blame them?

The Giants had a terrible season last year, finishing it with 3-14. They should be looking for a comeback, but rather big decisions were left hanging in the middle. Some of the fans even start to claim that this decision has made them want to vomit, stating “This make me nauseated. We’re still moving in the wrong direction!”

If we look at their plans, there is a possibility that the team goes for a QB in the NFL Draft. But that will not give them a veteran QB: one thing that they need the most at this moment. Even on the post, some fans pointed out the same. They asked, “What’s wrong with this team.” Not only that, but some of them have even begun to draw GM Joe Schoen into this.

They indirectly claimed that the GM is the reason behind this bad decision, and if the team fails again, then they would definitely replace him. This is one of the big reasons why the fans are “Looking for the GM Joe being fired.” While these fans were angry with the decisions of the team, some of them even started to mock the team. Under Schoen, the team has not been performing up to the mark and they have barely made the playoffs in the last five years.

One of the fans took the opportunity come up with a hilarious name for the Giants. They stated, “We’ve become the first meme franchise in the NFL history.” The fans have already been giving up on New York after this big decision was made.

They are assuming that the team would not be able to make an impact in this season either. Predicting it  would end with a record similar to the last two years. They stated: “There’s always season after next.” Phew! These fan remarks are quite negative about the team. But they are valid too. DeVito’s re-signing has sparked immense backlash.
