Who’s unknown to how the New York Giants crumbled down this season? Joe Schoen’s team has landed a catastrophic season with a 3-14 record. But it’s time to start fresh. For instance, signing a free agent. And as the offseason has already started for them, the Giants are desperately looking to sign a big contract this year!

If we believe the rumors, the Giants are looking for the Vikings‘ quarterback to sign for the 2025 season. And who is that player? J.J. McCarthy. Yeah, you read that right! But y’all know, the organization had a chance to sign McCarthy in last year’s draft, but they snubbed him for Malik Nabers. Nabers, who had a good season, wasn’t able to turnaround things in the 2024 season.

Even Joe Schoen was saying, “Malik was our guy, he was the guy we targeted.” Alright. Though McCarthy has not played a single game this year because of his knee injury, the Giants trust him. And no surprise about that being the Vikings #9 has won the championship during college days.

But apart from J.J. McCarthy, for April 2025 NFL drafts, Shedeur Sanders, who has already been discussed, could be a great deal for the Giants. Son of coach Prime, Deion Sanders, is currently tearing the college football games apart. So, for John Mara and Joe Schoen, Shedeur could be the reason they should trade other players. But that’s up in the air. The brand-new drafts will begin in three months and Mara could improve the team’s next season performance by signing quality and long-term quarterbacks.

Joe Schoen faced backlash, but for what?

Joe Schoen’s attitude is the talk of the town after the 2024 season debacle. His dirty laundry is out open. After his off-the-record talk with Nick McCloud‘s managers leaked, he faced a major backlash from all sides. The ESPN reporter revealed this on Jan 10 and showed the world how low Joe Schoen can go if the team is not performing well.

The Giants waived cornerback Nick McCloud, who signed a $2,985,000 (restricted tender, per Spotrac) deal, on November 5, 2024, after a crushing loss to the Dallas Cowboys. And you know what Schoen told McCloud’s representatives before putting him aside from the roster? He has said, “Don’t pay October’s rent, all right? As soon as I can replace him, I’m going to replace him. I’m not f****** around.” That’s totally rude.

Reacting to this, a user wrote on X, “guy sucks at his job. Best part it’s all on film on a TV show lmao. BUT you have to ask – if he still has his job, who above him REALLLLLLLLY sucks at their job?” That sort of behavior would certainly attract a huge backlash. After all, McCloud had only a $3 million deal. So, how can any team’s GM talk like that to any professional player? Another one wrote, “Both he and Daboll should be fired. What player is going to want to sign with the Giants after what they did to Barkley and now McCloud???” That’s some serious talk.

Some users pointed out his poor show as well, as they wrote on X, “McCloud was severely underperforming his contract. He was given a choice and i am sure the agent just handled it so professionally and perfectly without taking any of it personally, based on all his experience.” To be honest, McCloud wasn’t in his best touch as well. In his 7 games with the Giants this season, he had 14 tackles in total. Apart from his first season with the team in 2022, when he had 43 tackles with 1.5 sacks in just 14 games, his performance has been off. In the 2023 season, he had a total of 28 tackles in 17 games.

Well, Joe Schoen might have to pay the price for that, as players now recognize the culture he is cultivating in the New York Giants headquarters. However, the offseason and trading-related decisions must go on if the four-time Super Bowl champion team wants to bounce back next year.
