If you think that the NFL season being over meant that entertainment had stopped, well think again. The NFL off-season is a very interesting time. From draft pick discussions to staff changes and contract negotiations, there is always something going on. Players and teams that did not have a great season are especially in the news, trying to find the right fit for the next season. Well, this time around it’s the Giants and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Let’s face it, the Giants have not been having a good time. Their last two seasons have been absolutely poor and well, it doesn’t seem like things are going to improve soon. Now, amidst all this, LB Thibodeaux has spoken about his future with the team. According to recent reports shared by JPAFootball, “Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux says he doesn’t expect to have any conversations with New York on a contract extension this offseason, he told NYPost_Schwartz.”

This news brings up an interesting question: is this a bad or a good thing for the Giants? Well, Thibodeaux had a great 2023 season, he was playing well and had the numbers to show for it. Thibodeaux did well racking up an impressive 11.5 sacks in 2023, so what’s the issue now? In simple words, it’s consistency.

Thibodeaux has never been always dependable. It was evident this season by how poor he was, having just 5.5 sacks in 12 games. That’s almost half of what he achieved in 2023. And well, that sort of performance does warrant questions, doesn’t it?

So that brings up the question, can the Giants trust Thibodeaux to deliver great performances consistently?

Well, the LB himself knows his flaws. He knows he hasn’t been at his best and needs to prove himself to the team. Lucky for him, Joe Schoen does not want to cut him out just yet. According to recent reports, the Giants GM will pick up the fifth-year option for the 2026 season attached to Thibodeaux’s contract. And well, the 25-year-old was relieved to hear this. Especially as that will mean he gets paid $16.1 million in 2026. That’s some incentive, right?

The thing though is that even though Schoen might take the decision, many people do not agree with him, and Thibodeaux knows that’s. The Linebacker is glad it’s Schoen and not the fans who call the shots. He mentioned, “The fans don’t call the shots…Hopefully, the GM thinks I’m worth it.” Well, for now, it looks like the LB will be a part of the Giants for at least one more season. But if he wants to stay with them longer, he will have to do something great this season.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Thibodeaux's inconsistency a risk the Giants can afford to take next season?

Kayvon Thibodeaux is looking to change his mentality

So, you know what works in Thibodeaux’s favor? He totally gets that he hasn’t had the best season this year. That’s why this linebacker is really fired up to make a mark in the 2025 season. You could tell from his comments about next season what he was thinking. He said, “I’m super-excited for this year. No matter what, I’m just gonna keep pushing and going for that Gold Jacket and Super Bowl mindset!” Well, with that kind of attitude, he’s definitely got the motivation to help his team out.

Right now, there isn’t much news about who the Giants are scouting for next season, so holding onto Thibodeaux seems like a smart move for the time being. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to what the Giants’ Front Office decides. Do they think Kayvon Thibodeaux can pull off a repeat performance like he did in 2023, or maybe even up his game? We’ll just have to wait and see.

There are a bunch of decisions Schoen and the crew need to make, and they’ve gotta get on that ASAP. The team’s been struggling, so they really need to make the most of the off-season to at least stay in the hunt for a playoff spot next year. Right now, the big question is if Thibodeaux will even be part of those plans. It’s going to be super interesting to see if the Giants stick with him or go for some fresh faces in the draft. Either way, the Giants’ off-season is shaping up to be pretty exciting!
