Picture this: you’re a Giants fan, sitting on your couch for yet another Sunday, hoping—just hoping—that this time your QB won’t get sacked into next week or throw a pick on 3rd and 5. But from Daniel Jones’ rollercoaster of injuries to Tyrod Taylor subbing in and even Tommy DeVito getting his own cult following (and then getting benched), it’s been chaos. Quarterback roulette has basically become a yearly tradition in New York.

So, after coming off a disappointing 3-14 season, the Giants are so in the mood to flip the script in the next season. Thanks to that, they signed Russell Wilson on a one-year deal (Jameis Winston as well), hoping his leadership can ignite a spark. But with the NFL Draft looming and whispers of the Giants eyeing a top quarterback prospect, the question arises—how secure is Wilson’s spot as the starting QB?

Because if reports are true, the Giants’ general manager, Joe Schoen, is looking to draft a QB in this year’s NFL draft. Yeah, despite signing Wilson on a one-year deal. “Yeah, if the value matches up with what we have on a player,” Giants GM Joe Schoen said when asked about drafting a QB. “(But) I’m not going to force it if it’s not the right value. If the board lines up when we’re on the clock, we’ll go with it. I’m not going to be backed into a corner on that.” Translation?

Well, for the Giants, if the right quarterback is there, and the price feels right, sure, they’ll take him. But they’re not going to panic just to draft a QB in the draft. See it this way: the Giants have the No. 3 pick, and this year’s class has just a couple of top QB prospects. We’re talking about Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. And that’s where it gets pretty interesting.

The Titans are expected to draft Ward with their 1st overall pick. As for Shedeur, his draft stock is hard to pin down (not a top 5 guy, but could be drafted within the top 10 picks). That means instead of drafting a guy who isn’t good enough to be picked at their spot (No. 3), they just won’t grab him just because they need a QB. In fact, the team would probably like to trade down to get a QB later.

To make things more obvious, the general manager confirmed that “We’ve received some calls” from teams about trading up to No. 3 overall.

At the end of the day, one thing’s clear: the Giants are drafting a QB despite signing Russell Wilson and Winston. But given how they’ve struggled at that position lately and how vocal ownership has been, this feels more like “we’re totally drafting a QB but let’s keep it chill.” After all, the New York team is hosting a private workout session for Shedeur Sanders on Thursday.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Russell Wilson just a temporary fix for the Giants, or can he lead them to glory?

The Giants are keeping all options open despite signing Russell Wilson

The NFL draft is almost here, and things are taking interesting turns—each and every day. And the Giants’ general manager isn’t a stranger to this. Think about this: the Giants signed Russell Wilson (expected starting QB), and Jameis Winston (expected backup QB) in free agency. For most of the off-season, they didn’t show any signs of drafting a QB. The kicker? Well, they’re reportedly hosting a private workout with Shedeur Sanders on Thursday.

Now’s the big question: are they going to draft Sanders at No. 3? That’s the messy part. Because when the general manager was asked about the desire to draft a franchise QB, he straight-up said, “You’d like to have a young franchise QB. Every GM wants one. But the value has to be right. If you get that one wrong … You have to get that right.” That changes everything, folks.

Because let’s be real, at this point, Schoen’s statements sound less like a plan and more like a bluff. Because there could be just a couple of options for Sanders. Either he’s going to be drafted within the top 10 picks, or he might slide way down the board. As for the Giants, they’re probably doing their homework (as they’re hosting a private workout with Sanders). Yeah, just in case Shedeur drops to them.

But here’s the juicier part. The Saints are in an urgency to draft a QB. Because Derek Carr is uncertain to return due to a shoulder injury. That means the Giants are probably just pretending to be interested in Sanders to mess with other teams (Say, the Saints) who do really want him. And that’s where his statement, “We’ve received some calls” from teams about trading up to No. 3 overall comes in. So what will the Giants do in the draft?

Well, the way things are shaping up, the odds are favoring the Saints to draft Sanders. To make it spicier, the Giants are expected to trade down and pick a QB later. Would that be Shedeur Sanders? We’ve no clue. Does that affect Wilson’s future? Absolutely. All in all, it’s safe to say that as much as Shedeur’s draft stock is hard to pin down. The Giants’ GM’s statement to understand is even harder.
