It seems the New York Giants’s owner John Mara needs an influx of cash for his franchise. We already know that the NFL has allowed for private-equity investments in its teams. Since then, many franchises have been looking to join hands with the private firms. Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles sold eight percent of the team, and that too in two parts – $8.1 billion and $8.3 billion. But this time, it’s likely the turn for the Giants.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on X, John Mara’s Giants released a statement. They stated, “The Mara and Tisch families have retained Moelis & Company to explore the potential sale of a minority, non-controlling stake in the New York Giants. There will be no further comment in regard to the process.”
This means the Giants are considering selling a small non-controlling portion of the franchise. But, as obvious, they will still maintain overall ownership and decision-making power. But the question is how much John Mara’s franchise is reported to sell?

Well, nothing has been confirmed yet. But according to the rumors, and as Garafolo shared in a follow-up post, “The Giants are looking to sell off up to 10% of the team.” The “Recent public estimates of the Giants’ value range from $7.3 billion (Forbes) to $7.85 billion (CNBC).” Let’s break down this exciting financial play for the Giants in a way that’s easier to digest! Think of it like this: if the Giants are truly valued at $7.3 billion (that’s billion with a B!), then selling a 10% slice of this NFL pie would bring in a cool $730 million in fresh cash. Pretty impressive numbers, right? But here’s the interesting part – while the Mara family would be getting this massive cash injection, they’d be trading it for a portion of their ownership. It’s like having a huge pizza and deciding to share a slice – you get paid for the slice, but you now own a slightly smaller portion of the pizza. Though it should be mentioned that we should treat these specific numbers as estimates, since they’re based on reported valuations.
The Giants were founded by Tim Mara in 1925. Decades later, his grandson John Mara and Steve Tisch split ownership in 1991. Even within their 50/50 share, small portions are spread across their family members. So now, even with a minority stake open for private firms, the control will be in the hands of the owners. And this power of decision-making can be seen now, as Brian Daboll picked six names for major roles in the franchise.
John Mara’s team is developing!
The 2024 season ended drastically with just 3 wins and 14 losses. This embarrassment compelled John Mara and the Giants to release QB Daniel Jones. However, the owner decided to stick with the coach, Brian Daboll, as well as the GM, Joe Schoen. And now, amidst this investment boost, Mara’s coach is making some positive adjustments in the team.

The Giants just welcomed six fresh faces to help lead the team to victory, and let me tell you who’s joining the party: First up, we’ve got Marquand Manuel stepping in as the secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator – talk about a fancy title! He’ll be working alongside Jeff Burris, who’s taking the reins as cornerback coach to shape up those defensive backs. On the offensive side, Chad Hall is joining as assistant quarterbacks coach, and they’re bringing in Troy Brown as an offensive assistant through the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship – that’s a fantastic program helping diversify NFL coaching ranks! Rounding out the new crew are Steven Ferentz and Grant Morgan as defensive assistants. These two will be helping keep the Giants’ defense in tip-top shape! Looks like the Giants are serious about building a strong coaching foundation.

Besides them, the strength and conditioning team is getting a boost too – Drew Wilson moves up as the director of the team, while Chris Allen and Mark Naylor come in as assistants. On the other hand, as per the reports, Dr. Matthew Frakes will now handle performance nutrition, ensuring players stay at their peak. Let’s see how John Mara and Brian Daboll’s new Giants team come up in the next 2025 season.
