This offseason, whenever the Giants have found themselves in a headline. It’s either about whom they are picking with the No.3 overall pick or whether Aaron Rodgers will betray his Gang Green roots to join the G-Men. But right now, it seems the Giants have finally woken up with some signings to add depth. One position they are heavily targeting is the receiver slot. Because just hours after signing a backup to Malik Nabers, the Giants are bringing more receivers to their 90-man roster.

This time, it’s a once undrafted free agent out of Old DominionZach Pascal. He is apparently signing a one-year deal with a pending physical in the Big Apple. Pascal’s signing comes within a week he was spotted visiting the Giants’ facility. But throughout the week, it never once looked like the Giants were really going to bring Pascal to New York. Why? Because they had already given a similar one-year deal to another former undrafted free agent, Lil’Jordan Humphrey. So, why are the Giants bringing Pascal, anyway? Well, the answer lies in his resume.

See, since coming into the league with Washington, Pascal has been a journeyman around the NFL. He spent his first year mostly on the Titans practice squad after getting waived by the Commanders. Then, he was claimed by the Colts for the 2018 season. And honestly, in his four years wearing Indy Blue, he had a great run. Getting 44 starts under his belt, Pascal caught 150 receptions for 1,888 passing yards and 15 TDs. However, since his Indy days, Pascal’s production and playing time have both taken a hit.

He spent his 2022 season with the Eagles, catching only 15 receptions over 17 games (two starts). Then, in the past two seasons, he was almost a shadow in Arizona. Only caught 4 passes in 2023 from one start and pulled a blank in his 17 games last season. Seeing those numbers, you might be thinking, why the hell are the Giants signing him? Well, it might be because of his contributions to the special team. Last season, the 30-year-year played 64 of his snaps in the special team.

And judging by the Giants’ already bloated receiver room. It may not be a total surprise seeing the Giants using him as a special team member only. So, Pascal probably won’t be sharing the gridiron with the new Giants QB. Yep, the chances of him and Jameis Winston linking up in the Big Apple are pretty low.

Giants put Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson rumors to bed with Jameis Winston signing

Once Matthew Stafford was off the market—the Giants were constantly linked to one name—Aaron Rodgers. They flirted with him since the start of free agency. Even had a standing offer ready for him alongside the Steelers. And that wasn’t the only veteran the Giants were targeting. Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson also visited their facilities in hopes of securing a deal. But when none of those deals materialized, the Giants had enough of the waiting game.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Zach Pascal's experience make a real impact, or is he just a backup to Malik Nabers?

They went straight to 10-year veteran Jameis Winston and gave him the keys to the Giants’ offense. Penning him down for a two-year, $8M contract. Winston is expected to start this season as Tommy Devito is the only other quarterback on the Giants roster. But obviously, Winston’s signing isn’t the one for the future. G-Men still has the No.3 pick to themselves. And they are most likely to use it on either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward. The latter might be gone before the Giants are even on the clock.

So, Sanders is probably going to be the next future signal-caller for the Giants. Considering they had been tracking him all season long last year. It’s probably a matter of time before they use that No.3 pick on Sanders. But it won’t be happening without some outside help from Winston’s former franchise. Browns hold the No.2 pick, and them choosing not to sign Sanders will only make this come true. This means only time will tell who’s going to be Winston’s backup. Right now, it’s Devito. After April, it could be Sanders, who knows.
