Although the Seahawks failed to secure a playoff place this season, the duo of Geno Smith and Jaxon Smith-Njigbaw was sublime, especially the Seahawks WR who completed 1,130 yards in his sophomore season. “This guy is a dynamite player. He just brings it every day. He’s the guy that we thought he was,” head coach Mike Macdonald was full of praise for Jaxon. Geno Smith, the Seahawks QB, is equally responsible for Jaxon’s breakout sophomore year. I mean he is the one who helped his WR feel home in Seattle. “Having that confidence and just building that relationship with your quarterback, he talked about that a lot and how important that is, and that’s where I get it from,” Smith-Njigba said. “My mindset is, whatever Geno needs, I’m there to do that.”But just as Seahawks fans were eager to see Jaxon cement his legacy in Seattle, the 22-year-old WR has thrown everyone a curveball with a shocking twist.

Entire America is pumped up for the much anticipated Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Eagles on Feb 7th. But before that NFL fans got to witness some real drama during the Pro Bowl game between NFC and AFC this Sunday. Jaxon, playing quarterback for the NFC, came dangerously close to throwing a pick-six after receiving the snap from center Baker Mayfield. Probably, that was it for the Seahawks WR as he humorously decided that his quarterbacking days were officially over.

That’s right—he’s retiring. On Sunday, the 22-year-old posted on X, “I have officially retired.” At first, Jaxon shocked everyone with this post. But the Ohio State alum played kind of a prank on all of us. For a while, it sent fans into a frenzy.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Jaxon Smith-Njigba's QB joke give you a heart attack, or just a good laugh?

Have an interesting take?

But in a follow-up post, he clarified, “From trying to play QB (laughing emoji).” Well, Seahawks fans can breathe a little. It looks like the WR was in a fun mood after his first Pro Bowl appearance. So, what exactly happened that made Jaxon give us a jump scare with that post? Well, let’s just say his first Pro Bowl appearance didn’t go as he wanted it to.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba fails as a QB…

Being a QB is no joke, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba has learned that the hard way. In his first Pro Bowl year, the 22-year-old was there as an alternate wide receiver for the NFC, ready to show off his skills. But then, out of nowhere, he found himself thrust into the spotlight -playing quarterback. Someone thought it’d be a great idea to put the young WR under center. And you know when you put people on the spot, it goes one of two ways: spectacularly right or horribly wrong.

So, in a turn of events, when Jaxon Smith-Njigba attempted to play as the QB during the Pro Bowl, things went quite badly. Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick intercepted Smith’s pass. And surprise, surprise turned it into a touchdown. Honestly, seeing Jaxon throw that pass was pretty awful in the first place. And then Minkah running home with it just made matters worse.

And yeah, it looks like the WR himself isn’t exactly thrilled about how things went down. That whole QB experiment seems to have pushed his spirits way down. But maybe Jaxon should think of that dime he threw to DK Metcalf for a 35-yard gain during a Seahawks game. Or was that just luck? Well, the Seahawks roster might want to note this one down and be careful about it. They’d better not be sending Jaxon as the emergency QB anytime in the future.

For now, the Seahawks WR’s comment section is going crazy with all sorts of funny reactions. One user on X wrote, “Goat imma need you to run that back, I’m not getting better value for a top-tier receiver next fantasy draft.” Well, whatever keeps us occupied till the Super Bowl.
