Is it over for Bill Belichick at the Patriots charge? The question begs an answer after the franchise fell to their 10th defeat in the season against the Chargers. The 6x Super Bowl winners are now 2-10 with 5 games remaining to play, but the unconvincing way they have managed to lose recently is the most concerning.

This was the Patriots’ 3rd consecutive loss in the league while limiting their opponents by 10 points. Despite the narrow scoreline, the team has failed every single time to get something out of the game. Standing at that point, one wonders how long the Patriots management can put up with the head coach.

Another week, another devastation for the Patriots. Once the NFL’s fear-factors are not even a shadow of their former self anymore, it’s a night and day difference. After getting bullied for a poor defense for the majority of the season, now it’s the offense who has stepped their game up, or rather down.

Recently, the Patriots’ defense has been putting up better efforts to limit the opposition teams offensively. But the offense has become significantly worse, so much so that a sub-10-point lead is getting big enough to climb.

After two disappointments against the Colts (6-10) and the Giants (7-10), the team leveled down to lose to a 6-point lead against the Chargers. This was also their tenth loss of the season, the second worst in the league after the Carolina Panthers. This itself is a record, as the tweet from NFL’s Patriots writer Mike Reiss pointed out.

But at what point enough is finally enough? After yet another embarrassment following an expected postseason miss, for how long the owners will decide to hang on with the head coach?

Belichick to stay till the end of the season?

The Patriots dynasty is over, and Bill Belichick knows it. What soon will be over is his Patriots career altogether, but there’s still no clear signal when. With every passing game, the franchise seems to perform worse. The HC has not been able to make up his mind with a first-choice QB either, as Bailey Zappe became the third to start a game after Mac Jones and Brian Hoyer.

Despite the gradual descends, two things seemingly remain constant: Patriots bad time and Belichick at the wheel. The news broke out earlier in the season that the HC had already signed a contract extension with the team, but a lot of water has flown since. The fans have been fed up with the 71-year-old while some pundits have suggested the team end their relationship with the legend on a good term before things turn ever more ugly for his legacy.

But there’s no clear indication from both sides yet. It’s getting more and more probable every week that the Gillette Stadium might see the head coach walk down the sidelines for 5 more weeks, in his possibly last season ever.
