What’s the No. 1 rule in sports? Simple: you don’t quit on your team—no matter what. But here we are, talking about Tyreek Hill, one of the NFL’s most explosive NFL players, making headlines for doing exactly that. The Dolphins’ “Cheetah” found himself in hot water after a crucial season-ender against the Jets, and things have only gotten messier since. Now, NFL legends are chiming in, and fans are split between disappointment and disbelief.
Tyreek Hill’s decision to bow out during the Dolphins’ season finale against the Jets has everyone talking, and Shannon Sharpe isn’t the one to back down. On The Nightcap Show with Chad Ochocinco, Sharpe led the charge and commented, “Now it seems like Tyreek is a front runner. When things are going good, he’s there. Now, why we didn’t hear nothing about no broken wrist all year long, let me ask.” Ouch, right? That’s exactly how the million NFL fans ended up feeling right after the game night.

Sharpe’s words hit a nerve because they highlight a bigger issue: Was this just about the wrist injury or something more thant we can’t see? Sure, reports say Hill played through a wrist injury he picked up during training camp, which could explain his below-average season stats—81 catches, 959 yards, and six touchdowns. Not terrible, but far from the explosive “Cheetah” we’re used to seeing. Still, the way he exited has everyone questioning his commitment.
Tyree͏k Hil͏l had one ͏o͏f his least impressiv͏e season͏s ever͏, r͏acking up just͏ 959 yards. And his͏ lowest sin͏ce he manage͏d only 860 ya͏rd͏s in 12 games back͏ in 2019͏ ͏d͏u͏e to injuri͏es. ͏Plus, h͏is͏ 81 ca͏tc͏hes were͏ the fewest he’s s͏nagged s͏i͏nce͏ 2019 . In a move that fe͏lt all ͏too familiar t͏o Antonio Brown’s ant͏ics wit͏h Tom Brady’s Buccanee͏rs (and, yep, that went down͏ at Met͏Life Stadium ͏too). Hill decided to sit͏ o͏ut the fourth quarter and ͏made it clear he was done with the team after the game. There’s more to the story ͏than j͏ust͏ th͏e stats, e͏spe͏cially͏ with his agent commenting about the injury.
Tyreek’s agent runs to clear the air as WR’s clip goes viral
In the middle of this mess, the WR’s agent stepped in to ensure that everybody knew Hill’s side of the story as well. As per Drew, “We had top wrist doctors saying to Tyreek, ‘You need to get this operated on, you’re going to miss the season” He also continued saying how Tyreek continued playing through the pain while deciding to be the tough guy and may have become frustrated with the team’s disappointing 8-9 record. Now, does that translate to quitting on your team? Not exactly. And then the Cheetah’s loyal agent also doubled down on the WR’s perspective by quoting, “He’s committed to the Miami Dolphins,” reflecting on how the Miami star had an excellent meeting with Chris Grier & Mike McDaniel. So, what are the fans supposed to believe here? Tyreek’s supposedly good meeting with the key stakeholders or his decision to quit on his team?
Tyreek’s in͏j͏ury may have likely contributed to his reaction after the Dolphins’ rough 3͏2-2͏0 loss ͏to the Jets in the͏ season fina͏le͏. While his frustration may be genuine, it doesn’t answer the truth about his timing. Why now? The viral clip of Jaylen Waddle questioning Hill on the sidelines only adds fuel to the fire. Waddle’s reaction makes it clear that even he didn’t see this coming, just like everybody else. Was the Cheetah simply maxed out physically? Or was this a boiling point for deeper frustrations with how the season had gone?

I found this nugget while rewatching the game. This wasn’t just quitting on his team, it was quitting on everyone who believed in him: the fans, the coaches, and even his family. The moment Waddle asked Reek if he was done, it became painfully clear, he gave up. That choice… pic.twitter.com/uLe4anxuLb

In Miami’s season-ending matchup against the Jets, the former’s playoff hopes were hanging by a thread. The game was far from easy for the Dolphins as the Jets powered through with an impressive performance that left the Miami offense questioning their roles. Hill, who was supposed to take one for the team scored just 3 receptions for 28 yards. Pretty low for his standards, might we add! And when the Jets corner Sauce Gardener locked him down, it only added more to his growing frustration. Ultimately, Hill decided to sit out the 4th quarter, and that led to his team’s ultimate downfall at 21-14.
