NFL teams make or break their seasons with trades, and the Texans? Yeah, they’re out here playing roster Jenga like it’s a TikTok challenge. Instead of making sure C.J. Stroud isn’t running for his life next season, they’re pulling off moves that have fans straight-up losing it. Defense upgrades are cool and all, but maybe—just maybe—keeping your star QB from getting folded like a lawn chair should be the actual priority?
Their latest move? Sending offensive guard Kenyon Green to the Eagles for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and swapping 2026 draft picks. Gardner-Johnson is a dawg, no doubt—dude had six interceptions and 59 tackles during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run. And he sent his goodbye message to the team and fans as well. “I love you Philly, we forever champions 🦅“. But Green, even with his struggles, was part of an already questionable O-line, and now that group looks even worse.
And that’s not even the biggest L. The Texans also shipped off Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Commanders for a handful of draft picks. Sure, Tunsil had 17 penalties (a league-high, yikes), but he was still Stroud’s best protector. Now Houston’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s just hope we find someone good in the draft.’ Bold strategy; let’s see if it pays off.

The O-line was already down bad, ranking 27th in pass-blocking and 31st in pressure rate last season. Green wasn’t exactly him—he missed all of 2023 with an injury and had the worst PFF grade among linemen who played 200+ snaps—but trading him without a backup plan? That’s a wild move. Now the Texans are basically speed-running their options, looking at Tytus Howard and Blake Fisher or scoping out free agents like Tyron Smith, Cam Robinson, and Jedrick Wills Jr. They could also trade up in the draft for a top-tier tackle, but that’s still a gamble.
And the numbers? Oh, they’re ugly. Stroud’s clean-pocket passer ranking dropped from 90th to 26th percentile (brutal), and his deep passing completion rate tanked from 58.5% to 32.4%. Yeah, he’s talented, but if the O-line keeps selling, even he can’t save this offense.
Gardner-Johnson is a solid pickup for the defense, no doubt. But at what cost? If Stroud’s protection keeps disappearing, he’s gonna spend more time eating turf than throwing dimes. Texans fans are not vibing with this trade, roasting the front office for leaving their QB out to dry.
Twitter (or X, whichever you like to call it) is a full-on war zone. Fans are already calling this an ‘Andrew Luck 2.0‘ situation—aka, the Texans are fumbling a generational QB by not giving him an O-line. With the season creeping up, the front office better fix this mess, or it’s gonna be a long, painful year for Stroud.
Texans really said ‘protect Stroud? Nah, we good’
The Texans just pulled off some of the wildest roster moves, and fans are losing it. Instead of fixing their already mid offensive line, they basically yeeted it into the sun, leaving C.J. Stroud to fend for himself. And Texans Twitter? Yeah, it’s in shambles.

What’s your perspective on:
Are the Texans sabotaging C.J. Stroud's career by ignoring the need for a solid O-line?
Have an interesting take?
One fan put it best: “So CJ Stroud has a down year and the Texans answer to that is…. To trade away their entire OL???” Like, what’s the game plan here? Stroud was already running for his life, and now Houston’s basically inviting every pass rusher in the league to feast.
Then there’s this gem: “Stroud sack record 👀”—because at this rate, bro’s about to set historic numbers… for all the wrong reasons. And let’s not forget the one tweet that might actually be too real: “CJ Stroud is gonna need a body bag.” Yeah, it’s funny, but also?? Terrifying.
Even the glass-half-full crowd can’t spin this one. One fan tried: “Ok, love it for the Texans defense, but I’m still confused on the direction for the offensive line – OUR BIGGEST ISSUE LAST YEAR!!!” Another just straight-up admitted defeat: “I’m not real sure what the Texans’ plan is along the offensive line…” Spoiler alert: nobody is.

At this point, if Houston doesn’t fix this mess, CJ Stroud might not just be dodging sacks—he might be plotting his escape.
