“I love that city,” Davante Adams declared, his voice carrying a hint of passion. It’s not everyday you hear a star wideout opening up about his feelings. But when Adams did, it meant something. Something deep. His departure wasn’t a simple goodbye. 

Former Raiders’ WR opened up on the Up & Adams Show about his decision to leave the team. Adams explained how he’d put his heart and soul into making it work in Las Vegas. But it didn’t, and he didn’t know why. “I didn’t know. Not that it was rash at all, but it was something that hit me—something that had been in my heart for a while. I basically did everything that I could to make it work in Vegas,” Adams said, his voice a little heavy. 

“I loved putting on that uniform, that stadium, those fans—I loved everything about it. Everything was okay except for the fact that I wasn’t able to maximize what I could do,” said Adams. That statement cuts right to the core of his choice to take a bold leap toward Aaron Rodgers and New York. The 31-year-old added, “Sometimes, in this league, when you get older, you get fazed up because, and that’s the reason. I don’t want any barrier on what I could do on the football field. It’s clear that I wasn’t able to maximize my situation. It frustrated me. For me, I just wanted to be in a situation where I was able to get better.”

Adams’ journey from Green Bay to Las Vegas wasn’t supposed to end like this. The WR had a strong connection with QB Derek Carr. In March 2022, the Fresno State champ orchestrated a trade to the Raiders. But the chemistry Adams sought evaporated when Carr was benched and later released. As he put it, he didn’t see “eye-to-eye” with the Raiders’ front office, leaving him searching for a spark that was no longer there.

The cracks in the Raiders-Adams relationship began showing early this year. He skipped voluntary OTAs despite a new OC and QB in town. Instead of building rapport, the six-time Pro Bowl WR was busy hinting at his growing frustration. Then came his candid moments on the Netflix series Receiver, where he opened up about his struggles with QB Jimmy Garoppolo. 

In fact, ten days before trading Adams, Las Vegas themselves seemed to move on. HC Antonio Pierce delivered a pep talk to the team, showing a highlight reel of former and current players. Notably absent? Adams. 

When the 31-year-old approached Pierce after the Week 4 victory over Cleveland, many thought he’d announce he was good to go for the next game. Instead, he wanted out. Rodgers and the Jets were his top choice. 

Following the trade, A-Rod didn’t miss a beat, calling Davante Adams as the Jets’ new offensive hero.

Rodgers flipped the script on the Jets’ tough Week 6 loss to the Buffs. He hailed his old bud, Davante Adams, as the team’s new offensive ace. While New York sits at a shaky 2-4, the Super Bowl champ ain’t sweating it. He’s got his WRs back and is pretty hyped. “He can do a lot of different things…He’s got a high football IQ. I think he’s going to help,” Rodgers said. 

The chemistry between A-Rod and Adams? Unmatched. Back in Green Bay, the duo put up monster numbers—Adams snagging 622 catches, 7,590 yards, and 69 TDs, as Rodgers dished out 28,368 passing yards and 237 TDs. They owned the game. “We click. I mean, we could literally watch a highlight clip and both of us know the game, the play, the thoughts behind it,” the 40-year-old alluded, his confidence soaring.

But Rodgers didn’t stop there—he’s counting on Adams to mentor the younger guys, calling him a “master of route running and releases.” With the Jets looking to shake off their rocky start, the Rodgers-Adams reunion could be the spark they need to turn this season around.
